Did you see now why did i say stuff about appreciation and just to tell you something about me is that whneever i watch a movie whether it is bad, retarded or good i always aaeesha(live it in Lebanese)in order to understand it well and that imo is the key to success in life which is of course James Cameron had the same thing when writing Avatar in 1995.

I loved the General guy. He's hilarious. All his "bad guy" speeches, his standing in the cockpit with a mug of coffee, his fight against sully, ... The actor was really good

yeah i liked him too, kinda reminded me of Duke Nukem or Sarge from Quake 3
Sarge

and teh General

100% true and i liked the three scars too.

hahaha lol! DUKE NUKEM , right?!
anyway, bout the movie... well, the story was pretty much deja vu stuff (poor tribes men with sticks vs. big army with antimatter missiles or whatever!).. although i kinda liked the 'connecting with nature' ideas... One specific thing i didnt like was the way they were trying (and succeded) to cash in on the 'americans killing natives for oil' concept. i think it was very 'commercial' from them as its so much like telling people just what they wanna hear without any addition or insight or whatever...
as for the 3d tech., its pretty much immersive.. but i felt it was annoying too!.. headaches anyone?

I had migraine for two consecutive days after Avatar. 3D no more :)

Ok first of all let me admit that I did the worst mistake anyone could ever do: I watched it on DVD on my 18" laptop screen. So yeah I basically missed the whole 3D experience! But I still liked it over all.
The reason why you feel the story is "played" is because it was written in 1995, so yeah there are a lot of movies that presented the same story over the past few years. Maybe it was creative at that time, but definitely not anymore. But I, too, liked the idea of connecting with nature and all that stuff.
Concerning the graphics, I simply loved it. It happened that I watched it like 2-3 weeks after I learned using 3ds Max so I definitely appreciate all the work they've done. Modeling all the characters, creatures, plants, places... etc must have taken a LONG time and some HARD work.
It seriously reminded me of WarCraft III. I used to LOVE this game and the creatures in that game are kinda similar to those in the movie.
Overall, it did make much more noise than it deserves. They definitely marketed this movie very wisely. And thankfully it kicked Titanic's ass when it comes to revenues because Titanic sucks BIG TIME! There are many other movies that are way better than both, Titanic and Avatar, including Lord Of The Rings, Gladiator, Troy, The Patriot, Brave Heart... etc. (Anyone who hasn't seen those movies better do... SOON!)

Yup all of these movies are great and IMO better than avatar and titanic, especially Lord Of The Rings, I have watched it like 12 times so far and I never get bored, the story, music, and characters are amazing, in addition it has lots of meanings and reflections under it :)

Avatar blows.

Cameron usually is a genius in terms of catching the current generation of the ppl. Like titanic the revenues were due to the constant rate of seeing the film multiple times buy teenagers(the ones in love in special) and a lot of them were girls. While in Avatar it came in the time of the trend of 3D TV coming in summer or before.

We'll see how well would he do in Avatar II

Aj_BlaZ wroteno need to watch it in dunes waiting for 3d tv to arrive in lebanon :)
It will do you no good! Avatar is to be released as 2-D on DVD and even Blu-Ray!
Unless: "Cameron said a 3D version of the DVD might follow next year, depending on how the market for those TV sets develops."
But until then: "While Fox Home Entertainment's release of "Avatar" on DVD and Blu-ray next month will be limited to a 2D version of the movie"
The movie is still showing, you might as well try to catch it!

battikh wrote^^ so you prefer to wait months and watch it on a small screen just to save 10$?
It's 13,000 L.L in Lebanon B! :-p

Oh, by the by, I don't know if anyone of you have noticed. There's a music theme in Avatar which is the same as "Enemy At The Gates", after all, it's the same composer "James Horner", you could catch it by playing "Enemey At The Gates" at 1H:13M It's crystal clear. Or by just listening to "Avatar's" soundtrack "War" starting 8M:40S, "Scorched Earth" the last remaining seconds and "The Destruction of Hometree" starting at 6M:05S, or by listening to "Sniper's War" from "Enemy At The Gates" it's within the starting seconds, just to compare.
I caught it when I first watched Avatar, a real geek when it comes to movies I am! :-p
It's really disappointing for a movie that's been in the making for seven years, witch much imagination, and a composer as "James Horner" to add a similar theme of a previous movie.

Avatar = Pocahontas / Dances with Wolves / The Last Samurai with aliens instead of Indians / Japanese people.
The story is the movie's weakest point, and is not "deep" nor "philosophical". Quite dumb, if I have to describe it.

The visuals however, are the shitznit. I especially liked the white creatures that float in the air (or more precisely the 3D effect that displays whenever they're on screen). Epic.

I saw the avant-premiere of ocean world 3d yesterday.
It can be boring or cheap at times but if you sit through it you'll see some great 3d at some places. And learn a lot about ocean life :)
