  • Ideal Computer Store

How would you describe your perfect computer store? Let's be honest here, there is not a decent one in Lebanon. With all respect to everyone, Compu World or PC & Parts or any other stores, don't do business with ethics. We are somewhat geeks (meaning this forum's users), so we have a little bit of more information on computers to rely on when purchasing anything, but what about the average user? What about newbies? Also, support, warranty... Are low prices all that people want? Did you know that in Syria, an LG DVD-RW costs 18$ in retail? Did you know that most computer parts are customs fee free? Did you know that a lot of computer parts are delivered to Lebanon bearing in mind that Lebanon is a 3rd world country, and because of that, we get lower prices than most Middle Eastern countries? Did you know that the reason most peripherals are allegidly damaged by our electricity's unstableness because those peripherals were actually smuggled in, thus have no actual warranties? Name the store of your choice, and we will give you a list of illegal and unethical doings they go for. It's not just about hardware stores. It's also about internet prodivers. We are run by corp mafias, and up till a couple of days ago, we kept a low profile. We didn't want to launch any personal wars or take revenge or anything, but something recently happened, and one of us decided to put his life on the line for this. Go big or go home. Naturally, the Tigerhearts being like family, we're all in this together. This is our cause now. We are launching a war. Either we give Lebanon at least one honest computer store, or we die trying. What are your thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Come on, lay them all on us. Also, if anyone has any marketing strategies and understands how shares work, please contact us. Also, we're used to subjective behavior. A lot of uses here like certain stores so much, they'll come against us. We're sure we'll get the occasional "Yeah, everyone's bad, you're good. WHAT A LOAD OF...". We have proof of everyone's corruption, but we have never been allowed to prove our honesty yet. Defend those you know are corrupt, then you've got something in it for you. Have a good one.
for starters Lebanon needs a good computer repair center ! i repair my own computer , but end-users are constantly getting ripped by computer repair stores , and more than once charge more , or even charged for replacing something that's not faulty , so a good organized repair center to go along with a store is good :)
just who is "we" ?

yeah i agree with Jad.
most of the time when i used to go and fix my pc somewhere the guys there do not think they just recommend you to change the parts :P
and if i want to buy something he does not have , lets say a good VGA well the first thing i get: "why do you want that ?, take this part it is not as powerfull and but still good you don't need more than that ."
We are Tigerheart Hackers, a group formed to deliver ethical computing services at high speed and reasonable prices. We don't cheat people or overcharge. If we don't know what's wrong, we say so. We'd never charge 20$ for fixing a little issue that takes 20 seconds (like the amvo script). The group doesn't exist anymore, because almost every member is broke. Now, we're trying to re-group and open up a store. We're trying to go as far as possible with helping people. We don't want to get in anyone's way. We just want to do things the way we'd like them to be, presuming we were average consumers.
I know the guy who owns NBC Computers, they seem to be ok.

PC Repair is a tough business, I used to be a depot technician back in England... it's hard knocks.

I currently have an issue with my pc and im mad about it cause its been a month of trying possible solutions and still i dk what it is causing it :P
ok i've sent you a pm so we don't get off-topic
must have
- book section where you can buy books
- cd/dvd/software section
- should sell different sort of electronics, not only computers
- console section where you can sit and play console
- a place where you can try the games before buying them. Maybe also try computers
- free internet workstations for people to do reserach and check mail
- good looking and polite cashiers (not trolls like those at compuworld)
- You should be able to return stuff if you dont like it and exchange it.
- A personal relationship and special prices are a plus
- Smart pricing (student discount, etc..)
- Must be able to order stuff that is not present

edit: oh and an online catalog and store for those lazy days.
the dream store :p
let me win the lottery :P
and you can add a gaming area for lan parties , maybe create tournaments and stuff
I'm not picky, but i would love to see a certain device/part in action before buying and not just read the box.
make sure you have smart salesman ! those idiots disgust me , i sometimes ask them questions to test there ability , they turn out to be idiot parrots
where do shops in lebanon get their products from if not smuggled?
There are official distributors. However, they tend to have their own unethical bargains, so...
Why should all of these specs be a dream? If you can find them in other countries, why shouldn't we be able to have that too...I agree, having a store like that would be amazing, I'd spend 3 hours in a computer store over a clothes one, and I'm a girl :)

These distributors, where are they based? Are they all from China? I was thinking about getting an Apple Reseller licence or whatever they're called..is that unnecessary?
Most the products we get are really third grade. Quality in this market really fluctuates a lot !!!
Unless you are buying branded computers (Dell , HP etc ...) u can't get urself a guarantee.
I bought 10 500GB HDD last month .... 4 of them didn't last the first few weeks. (I got replacements, but that's not the point :P).
I needed to buy a good amount of hardware, bought them off the states and had them shipped :)
My dream store would be a store that sells linux equiped computers. I am sick of paying Windows licenses I never use. Most stores have one or two, but they don't put them forward.

Buyers could cut a great deal of costs by using open source software. Sure you can install pirated software but how ethical is that? By putting forward open source software, and providing good training/tutorials on how to use them, the ideal store could have unbeatable costs on the market.

It's all in the marketing and selling techniques. Most people don't have an idea about Linux and open source. My dream store would promote them (without stopping their Windows business for that matter)

Perhaps because linux does not fit the profile of a normal end user which coincidentally occupies the majority of the market place?

I'm all for diversity, but as a retailer i wouldn't care about those "1" or "2" customers that might possibly be interested in an OS'less or pre-installed linux machines.
Well, at least the option should be given if they want Linux with Windows, or even dual boot. It's so easy to setup, it should be an option.
