jadberro wroteim not being offensive or anything , but if we want to think like this then why do we even need edge ? isn't GPRS enough ? whatever development is , we should keep up we cant decide if its needed or not , we are talking here about 3G which has become a sort of a standard in most countries , its a shame we are still on the same network since 1992. as a customer i should never be satisfied i should always demand , and the companies will never reach my demand , they will get close but that will be enough ;) No ?
i'm not saying you should be satisfied with edge. and no, we can't settle with gprs, if i want to use google maps on the move, it will never load the maps fast enough while i'm moving (just to state ONE example). but edge is "enough" for many applications like video streaming, music streaming, video chat, ... all i was saying is that the non availability of 3g is not a reason not to care about phones for now. edge IS enough.
and no, it doesn't mean we should not push for 3g, in the contrary. but if providers don't see any interest in data on mobile phones and no one uses edge, why would they invest in 3g? you have to show interest in the technology to push them to invest in it. if their is no interest in edge, they will never think about investing in 3g, that's basic business.
xterm wroteAs you've said, it's not a requirement but we're struggling enough with the "current" connections and i don't plan to handicap myself on a mobile even more. Speed is a factor in my opinion.
have you ever used edge on a cellphone? it's not dialup, it's not a struggle. i live on 3g in dubai and came 2 weeks to leb and have been on edge here. haven't felt much difference.
plus, on edge i'm getting 350kbps and my home adsl connection is 512kbps, it's not such a drastic difference, you wont feel any difference, specially on a phone.
