i just connected a router but for some reason my Linksys WRT54G Router
doesn't show allow me to connect from my Laptop is vista(WLAN) to desktop is XP(LAN) or vice versa i checked settings of the router but couldn't tell how to allow my computers to show up on the network all the sharing options are turned on the problem is from the router anyone know how to fix it
Try to ping from one PC to the other and make sure there is a response, in case there is no response check the firewall(s).
I had the same situation like you 1 PC is XP and the other has Vista both connected to the same router but when I click on "My network places" in XP or "Network" in Vista no PC was visible to the other, and in order to share files between them I just use Start ==> Run ==> \PC-NAME and it works fine.
thanx man
but i solved it
stupid i didnt check the i.p
they were for some reason not in the same range
mishi el 7al now
what firmware are u using? the original from linksys or a custom linux one? (i am using micro dd-wrt on my Linksys WRT54Gv8), it gives me better control over my router..

I found a firmware ( linux based? ) for my linksys adsl router that allows me to access the device through telnet or ssh. Still, I dont really dare.
