Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites do not have such great delays. The current LEO constellations of Globalstar and Iridium satellites have delays of less than 40 ms round trip. The Globalstar constellation orbits 1,420 km above the earth and Iridium orbits at 670 km altitude. The proposed O3b Networks MEO constellation scheduled for deployment in 2010 would orbit at 8,062 km, with RTT latency of approximately 125 ms. The proposed new network is also designed for much higher throughput with links well in excess of 1 Gbps (Gigabits per second).

as of the 30th of September 2009, it is. as of today, no satellite communication network has a round trip of 40ms, so no way kareem is on one for having an rtt of 50ms.

you have your IP connectivity
you have your subscription links
you have your backbone which could be just about whatever.
you have your carrier connections.

each layer has its own mesh routing connection. if ogero is delivering your connection, it does not mean that they are providing you with the IP addresses nor ip connectivity. ogero could be providing the underlaying carrier connectivity where they have nothing to do with ip connectivity for example they could be providing the physical connection, the backbone connection and connectivity to the carrier.hence that is what i was reffering to when i told you to look at the traceroute. the only way you can see the "real" physical route is by getting your hands on the router and tracing your carrier path from there.

If they manage to do cheap satellites with good latencies then maybe we can dream a little about the end of ogero monopoly cr** and these people will go back to where they belong, which is milking cows, plowing the earth, and (if theyre smart enough) driving tractors.

nope there is no minimum latency if the connections are free from congestions and well setup.
i see no reason why you cant reach such a good number. what surprises me is that you can play online games from your office network!

You can call me Kareem, it is already my nickname. My avatar is just to make people know Nokia Siemens Networks. In Lebanon specifically, the majority has no idea what NSN is.. they often confuse NSN and MSN. The company is 2 years old and has not been popular here yet.

I thought Ogero backbone and physical connection already lag at least 100ms with minimum load.

I can play online games at work only if I connect to the WiFi AP that is an external link available after working hours. Nobody has time to play OG anyway but it was for testing purpose.

Obvisouly, the DSL user must lag for at least 40ms which seems to be the case. At work such delay does not exist. Most Probaby, the corporate accounts are connect through fibers to ISP. That means 50-60ms ping reply on bbc.co.uk.
