Spirit? There is no spirit lately. Good spirit remains only in "old school", educated lebanese.
What you are calling as "social gap", is just your mentality too different from naturalized citizens of country you live/lived. Yes, they don't like social life like you like, that's correct. And other things too. You, as foreigner, can't enjoy living in other country, if you don't make your small society. Most of nations doing such things well, thats why "chinese", "russian",etc. streets/areas exists in other countries.
It's like me, for example i like nature, picnics, but in Lebanon most of people scared when they understand there is no civilization nearby. Most of them go away to shoot and kill some animals, to pleasure their lowland hunting instincts... thats it.
Lebanese doesn't care at all, that they are going to destroy everything, have shit and garbage floating around outside, but more important that things in their house fancy and clean. Watch your lake at Baalbek valley, it is lake of poison. No life there, just poisoned scary green/yellow water. Thats for example what is wrong with Lebanon for my, russian, mentality.
But positive side - "old school" lebanese have strong family ties. It makes their morality higher than people in other countries, but in another side it creates 30-35 yr old guys, who is still living with mother, and don't have their own family. They do not infantile, but they are bound to that by need to take care about their parents. At the end it will shifts "demography" to side of people who "stamp kids" like in factory, without thinking how they will provide them some decent "living standard". They grow like locusts. In 150-200 years this gonna change word "lebanese" to totally different matter.
