I got the opera web browser because I was looking to reduce memory consumption, I dont have much memory so apps go quickly in the virtual memory and everything becomes sluggish.
I noticed that most of the memory consumption on my laptop goes to Browsers (well, of course after Vista makes sure it has a good 1/2 gigabyte only for itself).
I read about Opera being good at memory management, so I downloaded it to try, and I am very impressed, it looks great and is very light on memory.
It has a couple of cool features, such as integrated mail reader, mouse gestures, but this one is really know, check it out, face gestures...

(oh well, check the date, should have known...)

Although it may be true that it uses much less memory than other browsers do but I found it much slower than other browsers though. :|

Didn't Presto used to be the fastest rendering engine? I don't know about now though.
Also, they support HTML 5 the most up until now!
Check out this browser performance comparison http://cybernetnews.com/cybernotes-browser-performance-comparisons/ , and see under memory usage, opera seems to consume less memory on start up but then the memory consumption increases dramatically. On the other hand if you see under Javascript tests and page load times, Opera has very good results though.

Anyways I don't believe much in the statistics as much as I rely on personal experience, it has been long time since I last used Opera, I haven't used it for around 2 years so lots of things should have changed and my experience with it as "slow" may no longer be valid, anyways I will give the latest release a try :)
I tried opera years back, and used it for a while, but abandoned it and I dont remember why but it was probably not mature software back then.
Right now it looks great, and from real usage experience it seems to have the best memory performace so far. Firefox has pretty bad memory leaks. Chrome is OK though but I prefer the look and feel of Opera.
Javascript performance is good, not as wow as Chrome though, but it doesnt make much difference, unless you want to see 3d javascript, and even then... (there are some 3d javascript demos around... basically Javascript can now do what PCs did 15 years ago :D)
and Safari is probably the best for Mac, but perform pretty bad on weak PCs.
The face gesture thing makes you look like a professional retard! :D
The face gesture thing makes you look like a professional retard! big_smile
 But the I find idea of face gestures is not bad at all though, it gives a nice user experience and adds some fun while browsing :)

Opera usage share is garbage. I expect the browser to follow Netscape's suite... At least on PCs.
