  • Microsoft Contributes Code To The Linux Kernel !

Today, Microsoft released 20,000 lines of source code to contribute to the Linux Kernel. The source code includes 3 device drivers for Linux, introduced to the Linux community to be included in the system development tree. The code was released under GPL v2.

I found this quite shocking and surprising at the same time, that is Micro$oft God of commercial software contributes to open source? Yet this may be a very clever act made by Microsoft trying to gain some respect from the Open Source and Linux fanatics, another possibility is that maybe they have finally started to open up to the open source community as until now that they understood it's importance. Third possibility is that they are just 3am bikhabso and trying to get some more fame or just trying the things they never did in their life before dying  :P :P

Anyways, what do you think of this guys? What is your opinion? Do you have any other possibilities to share?

I think its a good move, will make for less MS haters.
I hope they stick mostly to device drivers, and not modify the kernel too much. It sounds kinda weird to be running linux with MS code in the kernel.
Just Imagine that
Loading initrd
Loading linux-12.7.20 ..........
Booting Ubuntu Linux
NTLDR is missing, press any key to restart.
On the other hand, Microsoft themselves are releasing some of their source code to selected partners.
Total BS!!
what they did was give code/drivers to have linux run better on hyperV, it is the equivelent of using vmtools on vmware and nothing more than that!! they made a big fuss of having done something gratious while the fact is they only contributed drivers to get linux run better on hyperv. If M$ did not do it, it would have been only a question of time before someone did it since hyperv is supposed to be "open". hyperV is still light years behind vmware and virtuozzo!
and this i can say that in its current state and version, hyperv is a pain in the A** in comparison to other virtualization hyper technology!
I seriously doubt that Microsoft cares about who hates it.
I bet microsoft submitted buggy code (not surprising btw) just to make the linux kernel unstable :P
I bet microsoft submitted buggy code (not surprising btw) just to make the linux kernel unstable tongue
They are trying to spread the Window$ Virus on other operating systems :P who knows :P
Microsoft better contributes code to its own OSes (they need that badly).

We have a Bulgarian proverb (trying to translate):

"They aren't letting him to enter the village yet he is asking about the house of the priest"
Microsoft better contributes code to its own OSes (they need that badly).
Agree.
