C has its own limitations. I have yet to find a C framework for web development. (Note that it would be theoretically possible to do web dev with C, but without a proper framework, it might not be the best idea).
Most popular languages have range. It mainly depends on the availability of frameworks and API. Java, C# and the likes have an extensive range of libraries, but being interpreted, you cannot really code a kernel with them.
Javascript is too browser-dependent. PHP is only executed server-side. COBOL can't use databases. ASM can virtually do anything, but cannot be ported. Matlab is mainly used for scientific calculations.
See, each language has its limitations, it really depends on what your project is. My vote went to Python, because of the focus on readability, ease of use and the availability of a surprisingly wide range of libraries considering how
young the language is.
