hey everyone

i want to setup a point 2 point link ( around 2-3 km ) so i would like to ask you where can i find 2.4ghz grids in Lebanon and what db should i get ?

the purpose is that i am not covered by adsl ( max package i can get is 128 and i want the 1meg) , so i know someone who lives next to the central and i can do the subscription on his line

I already have a DWL-2100 ( i can change the power through a hacked firmware i downloaded)

And finally, will this link get too much affected by rain? after all i am doing all this to finally get a reliable connection, and will increasing the db of the grid decrease the connection drop

Not affected by rain at all.
Regarding power - if u put too much - first u will fry ur amplifier chip after while, second u will get attention of TRA who got recently equipment to track illegal wireless. But still there is TOO MUCH interference.

Best thing you can try - two parabolic antennas 60cm, but instead of satellite LNB u need to have some small wifi antenna there, who can work with focused signal (bi-quad antenna for example). This way you can use little power and very narrow beam (so less interference u get and less interference made for others). Additionally such antennas dont grab too much attention, u can always say it is for TV.

I would propose APs with custom firmware so that you can boost the transmit power, and then the best directional antennas you can get. You can actually build a good directional antenna for very cheap, but making it solid and water resistant is another story.
If that doesn't reach, then try installing 1 or 2 repeaters along the path (you might have to pay people so that they let you install your stuff and use their electricity... dont forget to install a ups too)
Well it doesn't sound professional, but its cheap, avoids you legal hassles, and hey it might work... plus you get the satisfaction of having installed the link yourself.
If you want to lease a line, maybe VISP can do it, and also Cedarcom. You might want to contact GDS too. Or even ogero....But all that will require a montly fee when you can actually have it for free, granted you have lots of determination, patience and creativity.
Expect to have to do some research, and maybe also buy measuring equipment or find someone who can lend you theirs to properly align antennas.

Guys - boosting power BAD IDEA. VERY BAD IDEA. You are polluting frequencies this way and making even home wifi impossible. The same goal you can reach just by using good directional antennas, and you will partially isolate urself from interference of others.

And last thing, if you do inside home wifi noone cares. But outside link require license, even at 2.4. It is illegal in Lebanon and government hunting now for this links.
Even in "civilised" countries "no license" external 2.4 links have very strict limitations by EIRP.

- i live in the mountains so the link will pass over 7erech, should i be scared of TRA?
- where can i get the bi-quad wireless anthenna ?

To rolf : paying Gds and Cedarcom will ruin me as this is for personal use

- can i get a better deal than p2p link + dsl ? i am willing to pay 80 - 90 $ / month
- i was considering VISP at first but considering there current problems ...

To nuclearcat : i also have an option of sharing that connection with my neighbors, the budget will become 200$/month for all us(2 neighbours + me) , can VISP offer me a good deal :-)) (mabe i can wait till the problems are overs if it's worth it )

Why satellite btw? Just to check who is where google earth is good.

yes everything is open i have LOS , i didnt mean satellite i meant the dish ..

In this case, consider building a communications relay tower if it doesnt reach :D

It is also tempting, although un-environmental friendly, to lay a fiber optic cable over that distance.
