  • Tunisia is getting its own Internet link

http://www.totaltele.com/view.aspx?C=0&ID=444337&goback=.hom

no more comments on the issue. Tunisian government entirely funded the project in order to get their own Internet backbone
via Interoute.

What is Ogero waiting for? And till then they will keep feeding people with bullshit? There are at least 3 possibilities to get
a thick link to the Internet:

1. Pantel has a POP at Izmir, Turkey (the most south part of Turkey)
2. Cyprus has several links as well (PCCWBTN, Primetel, OTE, MedNautilus only has apprx 400Gbps).
3. Egypt

building a link to any of these will cost no more than 5 million USD (MAXIMUM), specially to Cyprus - it is like 120km (if my memory serves me well), you can reach it with a spit, for fucking sake. Yes, a link that can handle some 200-400Gbps will cost MAXIMUM 5 million USD. Even if this link is used for carrying 5Gbps Internet capacity, this makes (rude calculations) more than 5000Mbps. 5 million USD / 5000Mbps = $1000 per Mbit initial investment costs. So, if you put a "transmission media" cost of $100 per Mbit per month, in less than one year the initial investment will be COMPLETELY PAID OFF.

The rest to do is to sign an agreement with an Internet carrier (that is connected to the fiber system) for some bandwidth. That
takes less than a week. And guess, on the international markets 1Mbps full duplex (1upload + 1 download) costs some 50EUR maximum. Anyone can sell at this price - PCCWBTN, Interoute, Pantel/Invitel, TATA, just everyone. With this price (remember that some other expenses should be added - carrying that bandwidth from the landing station to the ISP premises, from ISP premises to the "last mile", salary and maintenance expenses) any Lebanese ISP would be able to sell low-latency 256Kbps dedicated at nearly 70% with no download limits for a price of $40-$50.

The so-called government of Lebanon is doing JUST NOTHING. Nor they want to go for this step, neither they allow someone else to
do it.

Just do not forget this next time when your family and friends run to the urns to vote for "our guy". Remember - that "your guy" already FAILED. Several times. Not because of anything/anyone else, just because that "your guy" decided to FAIL, wanted to FAIL.
Why they decided to FAIL - because they were busy with stealing. Ask Marwan Hamadeh and *ESPECIALLY* his son on how all
these millions of cash appeared in their pockets.
So much passion in this rant yet true :P
+1
I dont know... maybe you can explain why they chose to take a link from... saudi arabia?
Political/personal reasons?
Ok, till now I was silent about this BULLSHIT, but it is time to tell some facts.

Read this link -->
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-ME-WE

Though the capacity allows for almost 4Tbps, the "pipe" initially will be carrying some 400Gbps, not more.

I have some common projects with FT and TATA and have some internal info, but can't put all of it right here and right now.

1. KSA lacks of Internet badly as well. What they can give to us besides a cable for local peering between their own network and the Lebanese one?

2. The I-ME-WE project's goal is to supply KSA with bandwidth as well. Once they get bandwidth, they will be able to "give" to Lebanon
as well. BUT WHY???????? At this time Lebanon will be able to buy Internet at its own via the very same pipe.

ENOUGH BULLSHITTING with this Saudi link... What the fuck do they think, that "government idiots"? They are always the smart ones
and the people are the stupid ones??? Saudi link... what about the latency???? Lebanon is closer to the Pan EU backbone than KSA.

Really, stop eating this bullshit with the Saudi link. People like Abdul Yuseff and others, <snip>, should pay someone to write them some nicer lies. The old-style ones are barely working anymore.

Flyingwizard, on my experience since i seen T.G. on my previous work, he was always right, at the end 2001 he was talking that we should use HTB and future on it. He talk his usual way, he was only negotiating to work in company, but he was talking relatively agressive way and "want to change everything from up to down".
I went crazy and told - thats bullshit, our TM told thats bullshit, our boss told also HTB is bullshit. After TG left, and 2 years passed, we was forced to use HTB. But too late.
I had few more examples, after that i am listening well what T.G. is saying. I recommend to you to do same.
Try to remove emotions (even TG is too emotional) he is mostly always right.
lol theo we know its very likely to be bullshit... the thing is anything better then what we get now... we will take.
But ure right, enough pathetic crappy internet bullshit.
Teodor's "extra flavor" is the whole point. were taking blllsht from the gov while the whole world is going forward even thro crisis, and were sitting here debating any pathetic bandwidth increase that comes our way in pseudo technical babble...
you know being nice and patient is good, but too nice is not, especially if we wanna live with the world around us.
Btw, some news on the I-ME-WE project: Ogero is delaying the payments (well, it is not really news, but...)

The project has been delayed. First it was expected that the link from France to Tripoli(Lebanon) will be ready at end of May. The update now is -
end of November 2009.
So I have an idea of changing the tactics. At least it is worth trying
Looking forward to that.
and Thanks for the insider info that you are providing.

Flyingwizard:
I know the cursing and shouting and nagging doesn't change much, but I hope that everyone is getting more and more fedup ... there is a say - beware the anger of the patient ones

Teo is sitting in his country with decent internet con, it is us suffering. We are the ones who have to change
hope I can have your word that when some serious plan comes to action you won't bail out
I cleaned up some off-topic Flyingwizard and teodor posts. Stick to the topic.
the answer is very simple,

if it can make them more money, they would have done it long time ago.
Yeah, if you make the people rich, and give them justice, they will wake up, open their eyes, and demand for more.
Keep them starving, keep them struggling so that they dont have time or energy to ask for their rights.
But the truth always prevails. Eventually, they will fail.
