After the process of peering of all major ISPs in Lebanon has completed, VISP decided to open access to our v-enjoy multimedia server and the VISP gaming network.
Ogero is not a member of BIX.
cool! nice move.
when will the lebanese expatriates get access? (a)
It will all end up in tears (as they say in "Monkey Island"), remember my words. That is why I voted against this move.

First, all the burden will fall on us - hardware upgrades, maintenance, bandwidth (yes, of course). As other ISPs never bothered to move
their hairy butts to do something, why they would do it now? They will just let everyone to use it.

A number of some 40 gamers (CS, WoW, Call of Duty or whatever) will saturate the a 2Mbps link in no time. And 40 players is just nothing... simply nothing... 3 times more will come.

And when the the links become saturated, when there would be a hardware bottleneck, then we either will be forced to upgrade from our pocket, or we will keep hearing the words: "ayre bel visp". And all the users will call US when the gameplay or download speed is slow,
cause the support teams of other ISPs will behave as they used to do it so far: "WTF? I have no idea of what you are talking about! Get lost, go ask them!"

Once again - it will all end up in tears.
battikh wrotewhen will the lebanese expatriates get access? (a)
When Empty-salad peers with us at BIX (Beirut Internet Exchange).
wha??
is there an IX in beirut? i cant believe my eyes!!! woah thats major progress in infrastructure interconnectivity with other operators!! 3x cheers!!!
Man...

1. yes, there IX
2. It is something pathetic:

2.1. From what I saw during the interconnection process, none but IDM staff has some decent knowledge on BGP. I have no idea
where are all these 19 CCIES that battikh is talking about. Maybe they are working in the fast-food shops making manoushas, or driving taxies... Come on, guys, your place is in the ISPs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2.2. Low-speed links of 2Mbps over wireless, this is really pathetic. Ogero (and the "government") did not help at all, OF COURSE.
At least they should allow the peering parties to place fiber media from the IX colocation facilities till each of the members, then it would
be really a major progress.

As usually - when the other birds fly with the beak forwards, the Lebanese bird flies (ok, the bird of the Lebanese government) with the ASS forwards.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BGP aint that complicated, I used to work with that stuff 10 years ago, now i cant recall much of it since im working in other fields nowadays :)

are you serious! are you absolutelly serious? are they really running the IX thru wireless? that is a facade!!
IX should be setup properly with fibers and redundancy doubling if not tripling the connection points and having redundant sites in other cities.

no where in the world have i seen how money disappears into thin air as in lebanon. all the financial grants & support always ending in the wrong pockets and the work is left undone. its the wild wild middle east...sad story. one would expect several thousand years of civilization history and knowledge would enlighten the people...

2 mbps in nothing. You should limit access to strategy games, and not open FPS, although really FPS is where all the fun is, but if you get terrible latency then it will be negative publicity for your isp, or at best no publicity at all and only headache.
On the other hand... maybe if you limit the players...
In any case, watch that link.
2mb, 10mb,100mb.. the only difference is how much is consumed. do note that wireless connections suffer a lot of protocol and signal collisions which would lead to lost packages and high latency. wireless in such a case definetly is not the solution. better setup sdsl or adsl connections over copper lines instead of wireless!!

even worse radio signaling can be easily jammed defying the role and function of an IX!

an IX is intended to be a core backbone for all connections. the wireless setup part of it is a mock!!
i think teo said it clearly, no one is willing to invest. they can't lay down fiber on their own... you have to do with what you have... laying fiber and making an mpls cloud would be the ideal thing, but well, lets keep dreaming...
err it doesnt exactly need to be fiber but yes,as you stated.
as for mpls, well mpls is one option amongst many.

will all the illegal phone and electric cables in the country, its ironic how its hard to get a copper or fiber cable pulled in the country.... the irony..

When we used to have LANs with friend, Command an Conquer Generals would almost overwhelm the 100 mbps swtich :) there was no way of playing it over 10 mbps...
2mbps over wireless is a poor excuse for a IX...

are you sure that it was a switch and not a hub?

CC is latency hungry but not bandwidth hungry, I play it myself :D

maybe smth wrong with the switch then
Bashlogic,

there are two points in your post (as related to me), one logical and one unlogical.

The logical thing is that all you said is true.

The unlogical thing is that if these words have been said by me, then all other members - creams, fruits, vegetables, Shitting Blizzards and so on would jump on me accusing me in insulting Lebanon as a country, nation and so on, demand an excuse and etc... Go figure it???

err which words are you refferering to? I did not intentionally aimed at you foul words, if I did, I apologies, cause if i really did, you would have felt the "BASHING of logic" ;)

^^ he was referring to me
what he meant is that he agrees with you but if HE had said himself what you said, i would have started bashing him...
