WizaRd Anybody knows a good bandwidth limiter ? I want to limit the upload on one of my PCs.. down to 0.25KB/s (l3ama shou ke7teh :P) So yes, is there any effective program ? I am using NetLimiter 2.10 Pro but it sucks because you can set the limit for outgoing traffic for a said application (IE or mozilla) but when you open a new page (process) it does not automatically apply the limit to it for some reason. Thanks!
mir oh you can get the same effect by unplugging 0or disabling your connection if i find anything.. i will let you know..(should be that hard tho )
battikh check tomato firmware: http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato if your router is supported, you can do traffic shaping and qos on it.
WizaRd Ya reit watermelon, my router is one of the cheapest things in the market.. the D-link 300 something. (not supported) When I bought it I just wanted it to do the simple things a router can do and i have overlooked this. I doubt there could be a really effective software, I'll wait and see!
battikh then it's time to change it :D or if you have and old pc that you're not using, put some basic linux distro on it and use it as a router and do traffic shaping on it.
BashLogic well, if you want to be a real geek this is what you can do.. install vmware on the host, on that host install a linux with two nics, configure your linux to act as your gateway and QOS. configure your windows to use the linux as your gateway presto!!!
WizaRd nice idea :P And there was me thinking Windows community would have created a program for this thing haha I will see if I can try this sometime soon cuz I don't have too much time on my hands now.. but definitely.. *THIS* is Geek!
karim flyingwizard, if you router is the d-link dir-300, you can flash it with another linux based firmware. look up dd-wrt, it's what i use. it's actually much easier than it sounds, and it does have qos services.
samer DD-WRT mostly works with Linksys (WRT54G and the like) but supports a hell lot of routers as well (full list) You can check out Tomato as well, like battikh suggested or go hardcore using BashLogic's technique.
rolf There was something like that... google for bandwith limit simulation windows here's one i found: http://www.download32.com/speed-limiter-i26865.html But it seems to be a proxy... I remember there was a software that would run in the tray and simulate a slow connection (for all the OS) but i cant seem to find it anymore
