Hello guys..
I want to get the HDD Serial Number , encrypt it and save it in my database...
halla2 if u look around on the net, you will find tons of codes that tell the Hdd serial numbers
I want to get a serial number that doesn't change with a format (lot of codes don't give the real number)
so i opened cmd ..i simply typed dir c
volume serial number is : Xd231 ..
so it is simple.. i can get the result to a text file (using > ) and read the serial number...
is that a simple or a stupid approach?
do u think this serial number will change ....
elaborate...
10x for ur replies in advance

Most correct way to get serial over ATAPI IDENTIFY command, you will get array with full information. It is for IDE, for SCSI i dunno.
But
1. I got few times in lebanon OEM HDD's with number - all zero.
2. IDE DOM flash usually dont have serial too.
etc...

I am not sure also about dir, maybe it is logical volume serial, not HDD. You can make sure about serial, by checking some "hardware info" reporting tools.

Thank you for your reply nuclearcat..

Just an idea, why don't you get the BIOS date? I have seen some software packages (old time, DOS based), which check for the BIOS date as a copy protection method.
