FlyingWizard, you really have a very hazy idea of how Internet works.
ADSL, wireless, ATM, Ethernet UTP/FTP/STP, commutated modem, FDDI...

All this are layer 1 transmitting media. Their capacity shows how much data they can transfer at maximum. Let say, the usual UTP ethernet cable (category 5e) can support 1Gbps (YES, rude said - 1000Mbps). However this does not mean that if you have an ethernet cable connection to the ISP with a Gigabit ethernet card, you will download with 125MB per second. And the reason of this is not only because your hard drive can't handle it.

Connectivity is NOT equal to Internet access.

If you are around Doura, I can arrange an ADSL link with 24Mbps capacity. But this does not mean that you will get 24Mbps speed to the Internet. The speed will depend on how much you will limit you on. We can put it even 32Kbps (4KB per second). So what?

Antokh, your post is really senseless and stupid. Clever people usually brag merely on their own achievements. Do you have any merit for getting this speed? Are you some of the engineers supporting the providers network? Or maybe you have invented the DSL technology?

i was only trying to point out:
1- the excessive costs for ADSL in leb, IDM is totally in control of the prices obviously, and i doubt their connection will be that good.
2- the need to have good cable connection instead of the whole ADSL thing. this technology will be obsolete in the few years to come while it's only being introduced to lebanon
3- how a real fast connection should be.

sorry for not mentioning all that, but i assumed it would make sense

... this is excellent, its even cheaper than dubai.
256 over here is for almost 40$
when ADSL was first introduced in dubai it was for around 70$ for a 256kbps. So i guess its a very good deal...

but guys, are u sure its ADSL... and not some other type of DSL (like "DSL lite" for ex.)

512 down 64 up , unlimited , 50 $ a month :S there must be somthing wrong ... i mean the numbers might be true but its definitely limited ( i think ) if it is really unlimited then there must be a certain limited number of user under each ISP or else every one would open up their connection , leave it downloading over night at amazing speed ... it looks good if it's true but hey guys it doesn't make sense ...
i predict the 512 connection would be somewhere in the 300 $ , fixed IP , no peek times , dedicated connection and unlimited ... now that makes sense !! :P hehe

not all lebanese are geeks, some people think internet = msn , so it's a more than reasonable price

For non-stop downloads - not real. Even in countries who have fiber everywhere "heavy" Kazaa users is not welcome. For real home user even in Lebanon - it is REAL. But it doesnt mean it can be used as CIR(guaranteed,dedicated) bw. it is SHARED.

Good IX in USA, for server in rack, it is $70/Mg. And you expect $50=512Kbit dedicated in the middle east? No way!

About shared Kazaa users, i mean they are not welcome even in civil countries, who have fiber everywhere. If you want to be kicked from ur home ADSL in Germany, leave Kazaa open with many downloads. Or they will block ports (if it possible), or kick you out. It is real story, and few my friends hit this. One of friends(cypriot), who like a lot downloads, got kicked from ADSL also.
