Most of the timings are not that good for people who are fasting.
Would you want to meet each other?

zoom just no, i just wont install it, after they had ridiculous security issues.
Also i dont want one more IM on my pc, i have 4 screens full of notifications from discord, telegram, whatsapp, riot, XMPP, emails(somehow need to watch them too), and also zoom?

Sorry about that. Can you suggest more appropriate time ranges for people fasting?TheIlluminative wroteMost of the timings are not that good for people who are fasting.
No need to install it. It will work in your browser. For now, this is a one time online event, not something you will receive notifications for constantly. Also i dont want one more IM on my pc, i have 4 screens full of notifications from discord, telegram, whatsapp, riot, XMPP, emails(somehow need to watch them too), and also zoom?
I prefer if we transparently vote for app choice, and to see if majority wants zoom.
I would have to second that. Although zoom may be a reliable and transparent option, I didn't personally like it. Screen sharing and controlling was a hell. Nuclearcat and John, thanks for the feedback. For now, I'd like to hear about time preferences, because it seems that the ones previously suggested did not work well for people fasting. I've added earlier options during the day and some options for Sunday: https://doodle.com/poll/psysxnvg9nh9rcd9
For those who voted already, can you please update your votes?

They are not transparent, worse - they are or liars or have zero understanding of security.Johnaudi wroteI would have to second that. Zoom leading news about security issues, especially the use of totally useless ECB encryption, false statement about e2e encryption, problems with privacy policy.
Except for the situation when the majority of the community vote for such application - i refuse to use it and participate in such meeting.

Even after the comments, the wishes for fasting people were not taken into account. I carefully studied this topic in order to reasonably plan the work and not disturb the colleagues who are fasting.
In our particular example the time was shifted an hour or two earlier, approx. And thats not fine.
People are hungry from ~5am. At the indicated time, they will be simply VERY hungry (and nervous), highly likely sleeping, or cooking / buying food. A good time at ramadan for work, meetings and anything meaningful - or early in the morning or after iftar(if i am not wrong, it is name of prayer time when fasting ends).
In addition, zoom or any video conference are a poor choice in the evening and the reason is simple - rush hour/peak time. At this point, almost all private ISPs has a load close to the nominal and the amount of incoming bandwidth is limited. Even Ogero users might be affected because of DSL lines co-interference and other apartment/connection co-tenants activity.

I do agree with you, but what's the point since the meeting itself isn't really considered private, and you don't need to create an account to join a zoom call? (Just a simple VPN + Zoom's website)nuclearcat wrote They are not transparent, worse - they are or liars or have zero understanding of security.

I am also against Zoom, but the meeting app selection should be the next step not this one :p
Also regarding fasting, what do you think is an adequate time to meet up? Sorry I don't think I (and perhaps Samer) can put ourselves in your shoes regarding the timeframe available. Perhaps give us an idea on when people fasting would enjoy meeting up? (I have completely no knowledge into this whatsoever, would be nice to know for future planning as well)

You need to register at Zoom and provide your private data (at least email, probably more). Also when you will establish call, most likely it uses WebRTC in browser. You can read, how much "extra" info it provides about you.Johnaudi wrote I do agree with you, but what's the point since the meeting itself isn't really considered private, and you don't need to create an account to join a zoom call? IMO it should be first step, because as i mentioned - if it is a video app, then it is pointless to assign meeting at evening, as many people might suffer with connection. If it is voice or chat meeting - it is less relevant.
And i see as pointless to vote, as polling specify already zoom as it's "decision done". I basically do not participate in meetings where conditions are set such way that they are not comfortable for me + i do not see that this is a reasonable decision or the decision of the majority.
Regarding fasting, it's definitely better if someone who is more familiar with subject will voice his opinion and tell if i am wrong or not. I voiced mine as i have some experience at managing mixed team, where some members are fasting. But dont exclude i am wrong.
My opinion i voiced before - or after iftar or morning.
Nuclearcat, thanks again for voicing your opinion and for the feedback regarding the time slots and the location of the meeting. We'll treat this meeting as an experiment to learn from and see what works and what doesn't.
It seems that a sizable group has already RSVP'd on doodle. If anyone is interested and hasn't added their time preferences yet, please do it here: https://doodle.com/poll/psysxnvg9nh9rcd9
We will choosing the final time slot and venue in the coming days.

The best thing right now would be creating a group chat to whoever is interested.
Either on whatsapp, telegram, discord or whatever.
And then for the meeting everyone would discuss it live in the group chat.

Thank you Avo for the suggestion. To avoid a constant back and forth, the Doodle provides predefined options, which seems to be working well judging from the responses to the survey.AVOlio wroteThe best thing right now would be creating a group chat to whoever is interested.

EDIT: We have a date! This first, experimental meetup will take place on May 14th at 7:00 PM Beirut time (next Thursday). I will be sharing a calendar invite directly to the emails of the members who RSVP'd.
UPDATE: I have shared an calendar invite with a Google Meet link to those who replied on the Doodle. I used the emails from your profiles. If you have not received the invite and would like to attend, send me a PM with your email.
REMINDER: the meeting is tonight at 7 PM. I shared an invite via email that contains the Google Meet link. Talk to you soon.
Thanks for everyone who attended! It was great meeting you all.
For those who were there, what would you do differently?

A different program as this was running like garbage on my connection.
I would come on time!samer wrote For those who were there, what would you do differently?
I would suggest picking a topic or two in advance.
