Yeah been following the news , basically a Zen 2 CPU and a Navi Based GPU with a Real Time Ray Tracing capable hardware , both based on 7nm. Suspersingly the current 5700XT misses RTRT. To me it will be capable to output 2160p native 60 fps on medium - high setting and upscaled 8k at 30 fps ( like checkerboarding). Added to that an SSD for faster loading and texture streaming vs a mechanical HDD on current (consoles - which you can swap and plug an SSD as I did in my PS4 Pro).

It is nice to have the PS5 for a lazy couch experience but my expectations are not too high in raw performance relative to PC gaming experience that has been and will always be a way way ahead. For a fully fledged experience an 8K TV will be required with HDMI 2.1 or at least a 4k TV with HDMI 2.1. PS5 will most certainly support the HDMI 2.1 standard. Currently Samsung Q90R ( 4k) , Q900R(8K) and LGs 2019 OLED Models ) (C9 , E9 ..) includes HDMI 2.1 ports. They are considered high end TVs with 3K+ investments for the 55" inch variants. Hopefully in Q4 2020 , HDMI 2.1 and/or 8K will become more mainstream , with price drops. Which I suspect that to happen after 1 year and 3 months from now.

kareem_nasser wroteI think you should check this video from Digitalfoundry comparing GCN 1.0 to RDNA Navi RDNA vs GCN 1.0: Last-Gen vs Next-Gen GPU Tech Head-To-Head!

Yep I watched it the moment Digital Foundry uploaded it on youtube. There is nothing special about RDNA and the 5700XT with 7nm Navi RDNA architrcture has an average rasterization performance relative to 2019 technological advancements. The PS5 will add some sort of RT cores to do real time ray tracing. With proper development (as current PS4 / PS4 Pro Exlusives) the PS4 5 will have a relative ~ 1080ti performance in rasterization ~ 11.3 TFLOPS of FP32 performance.

In case you missed this very confident "leaker" of the now confirmed devkit of the console (again: devkit):

2 months later
A new leak suggests that the upcoming PS5 will have a 1TB SSD. To me it is relatively low.

Big Games with Enhanced New Graphic Engines coupled with high resolution textures.

Mass Updates / Patches.

A side note , which is disappointing & underwhelming , that at CES 2020 2020 Sony 4K TV flagships (X900H & X950H) are not confirmed to have the fully fledged HDM 2.1 inputs with 48Gbps , VRR , ALLM , & QFT. The 8K Z9H is only confirmed to have the full fat HDMI 2.1 ports.

https://youtu.be/Y3-svXRvTOc

In comparsion , LGs 2019 B9 model included all 4 ports HDMI 2.1 ports and less positioned budget oriented manufacturers such as TCL announced that also some 2020 4k models will include hdmi 2.1 ports.

Sony need to step up.

Nice Update.

So most probably the x900h will be the perfect fit. I am still skeptical until I see the official testing / reviews of rtings.com with their comprehensive thorough testing.

65" 4k HDMI 2.1 HDR TV or 65" 8K HDMI 2.1 HDR TV a good one nets you a an easy 2k + PS5 + UPS for it etc.. ~ 600 USD min , plus yearly memberships for Network .. For a full fludged experience, nets a USD 3k investment min Full package ~ extreme pc case lol.

It will have a relative RTX2070 super class perfromance in raw rasterized rendering , with optimized titles like Sony Exclusives

Native 2160p High Setting / 60Fps or 120fps on Pesudo 2160p ( as the current PS4 Pro Does ) - Checkerboarding , Dynamic 2160p , 1800p upscaled to 2160p.

Lot of Hype and fake percetions , actual perfromance will be like that.

Added , for 2160p 120hz a decent 55-65" 4K Real HDR HDMI 2.1 TV is needed ~ 2k USD.

It will have a 6 years Life Cycle for a 2080 and a CPU < i7 9700k level performance + a new tv investment for the 2160p 120fps feature (HDMI 2.1)

It would have been much better for the ps5 to have 352 bit bus interface ~ on GDDR6 rather than a 256 bit bus interface. This will give a real graphical computational power not a 5.5 Gb /sec SSD.

A Gen 3 PCI current NVME nets 3.5GB / sec vs 5.5 GB / sec nets a few seconds less in loading & textures streaming.

Nevertheless, if Sony continues its trend on solid exclusives. PS5 will seal the deal vs Xbox Series X.

One point I really dislliked about the Xbox Series X and it needs proprietary expansion card. It will only accept the Xbox Series X Storage Expansion Card. It’s being developed by Segate. The PS5, on the other hand, will have an expansion bay for an off-the-shelf M.2 NVMe SSD giving it more flexibility.

Sony/Cerny focuses on balance, so they won't incorporate a huge bus while they cant feed it accordingly. Also MS used a mixed module configuration because for each bus width there is a set number of manufactured chips and thus configurations, here is a table to explain things:

DF clearly explained the different approaches here, and in some cases the XSX might be bottlenecked due to the huge GPU and CUs which requires a relevant number of ROPs, memory and memory speed to be fed. DF also stressed that the clock speeds on PS5 are ambient temperature agnostic.

Currently there is not much to talk about which matters the most...Games, both didnt talk much about games (if at all) and MS focused on backward compatibility, yet again. I know they have a dedicated team for it, but still this is a brand new console.

Frankly I am not convinced with Sony approach. A 3700x class CPU and RTX 2070 - 2080 equivalence - More than 480GB/sec of memory bandwidth will not be bottlenecked at all at 2160p , it is the opposite higher memory total bandwidth will push more frames ( min frames at 2160p). Example an RTX 2080ti has a memory bandwidth of 616GB/s will not be bottlenecked at all a system that has an I7 8700k / 3700x at 2160p 60fps or 60fps gameplay.

Tech Guru wrotePlayStation 5 will cost a massive $1032, A Danish Store listed its pre-order:

Thats impossible. They have xbox to compete with and could if it had a price like that it wont sell. Probably a mistake.

Playstation 5 :

Most probably a pre-order price of 500-600ish MSRP ( reaching here 800ish) , but to me it is a much heavier investment overall:

Here are some points

50 × 5 years life cycle = 250 usd yearly membership for Online Gaming + a 1K investment for a an entry " good " 4K UHD 2160p TV much higher for a TV with HDMI 2.1 to enable "pesudo" 2160p 120hz. PS Plus Free games are old from my experience in PS4 Pro.

1 TB storage are nonsense now with each 60GB games min , mega downloads and updates with digital advantage of discounted games on PS Plus. Add an external storage to the equation.

And personally I donot trust AMD Gpu tech in raw Tflops as an example of actual performance short example.

Vega 64 vs 1080ti
12.66 Tflops vs 11.3 Tflops yet the 1080ti beaten its ass in everything.

Beside, DirectX 12 ultimate is coming as a universal API , not in raw rasterization rather in the embedded tech like real time rendering that AMD going into after 2 years inn RDNA 2 architecture.

Point Here mate , Comparing as stand alone console vs a Gaming PC is none sense. Bringing a Console is an investment in itself .. As such usually they should be less < 1k regardless of the embedded hardware. There are a lot of "hidden costs" with console to have a console experience.

People assume Oh that is an 600ish console matching a 1.5K PC .. #Nonsense

I see your point in that, and while I do agree with everything you mentioned, the biggest counterargument is exclusives.

Most (if not all) Xbox games are coming to PC, where you can enjoy them with as high of a quality you would like, so I do not see the appeal in owing an Xbox at all. Nintendo and PS consoles on the other hand, have the best exclusives.

If I recall correctly, you mentioned on a separate thread when God of War came out, just how good of a game it was. There a ton of exclusives out there, which is the sole reason I own a PS4 (non-pro mind you; I only have it to play the game on a 720p TV) and am looking to get a switch.

I am not saying I will purchase the PS5 on launch date, but as long as the exclusives are that good, I know I will be buying the consoles for the games and playing them at sub-par quality just for the experience.

Agree. I have enjoyed Sony Exclusives on the PS4 Pro they nail it in:

Gameplay
Graphic Engines / Image Fidelity
Animations
Storyline
Optimization
HDR Implemention (In Recent exclusives)

However , Sony sadly is gradually losing its exclusives:

Horizon Zero Dawn
MLB: The Show
Detroit: Become Human
Nioh
NieR: Automata
Death Stranding

I suspect more will detach the Sony exclusivity like BloodBorne (now fully supported by PCSX4  emulator which I tested - higher FPS with no 30fps lock along with AA injection)
