Hi, I've been wanting to get a UPS for my router for a while now, and I see the pcandparts.com has them. However I don't know which amperage I should get, and whether or not I'll need to get a surge protector with it. I assume my router won't need a lot, since we have backup electricity that comes on after a couple of minutes. Also, if I intend to buy a very good router to replace my old one, will I need to consider more amperage for the future? Thanks.
UPS for Routers

The thing to ask yourself, do you want a UPS that has regular power ports to plug your router's AC adapter or do you want a small dedicated UPS that outputs DC directly?
In the case of regular UPS you should be alright no matter what router you put on there since the power draw on routers is relatively small even on the bigger tri-band devices.
In the case of dedicated UPS with DC output, you would need to look at a few things:
1- The DC out voltage and the Current/Amperage on the UPS match the router's original AC adapter.
2- The UPS uses the appropriate DC jack size for your device (can be solved with an adapter but not ideal)
3- Last but not least make sure that the DC jack has the same polarity as the original adapter (it usually is the case but it would be silly not to check)

I’ve got a cheap solution running for months now, i saw a page on facebook promoting a backup power bank / ups for modems, it is cheap so i gave it a try, my modem has been up and running ever since.

I got the PCE M8-700 today and plugged the modem, router and phone in it. It’s releasing a relatively loud humming noise. It’s annoying since it’s in my bedroom. Could it be the battery charging and the noise will disappear soon?

I have the cyberpower PFC 1500 series in my bedroom. Never been happier. NO fan, zero noise and great reliability ( 3 years and still strong )...
