Read an interesting article that was discussing what the single most important idea is for any game developer should be, and that is longevity. For me, I played Runescape for over 16 years, and what kept me coming back is that the game was cumulative, I log off and the next day when I log in, my stats are still there and I have more progress than other players. Now with new games like LoL, CS GO, while you do have your rank and skins etc, it's still not a cumulative game because we all start with the same amount of money in a new game (as per example).
What do you think is the most important factor in this generations video games? Monetization is definitely a factor, as we see some people now are full time twitch streamers and depend on donations and subscriptions to pay the bills.
Note: I know longevity does not necessarily mean cumulative gameplay, it can be interpreted in many different ways for everyone.
