  • Securing an apartment door

I want to protect my apartment from burglars.
For that I decided to change the entrance door to a more secure one.

Steel-Wooden security doors sounds like a good option.
What do you think?
are they expensive?
Do you recommend any seller in Lebanon for good quality doors?
No burglar will tear down a door with an axe, unless it's a flimsy one and there are no neighbors to hear it.
So the weak point is usually not the door itself but the frame and the locks. They will try to wedge a crowbar between the door and the frame and pry it open.
Keep that in mind!
This is exactly my situation
Neighbors were all from the same family. They all moved at the same time to another building.
so now I live in an apartment with no neighbors, that's why i decided to secure things a bit
I'm also interested in this.
Our door currently is only one kick away.
For anyone that has experience of securing their doors, what do you recommend? How much will it cost to completely change the door? And maybe put a steel cage /door in front of the wooden one aswell?
Secure the Building Door and spread the expense on the Building
thats a bigger deterrent than just the wooden door.

robber case building to see how they come in.

As for the house door, a 3 lock door or 9 lock door to the existing door (if the door is good quality) just make sure its not cheap made

Also invest in a security camera (fake one also) .. those are also deterrents

Doorlock
I don't think that cameras are worth the invasion of privacy.

A camera that you set up outside your door is an invasion of privacy?
There are locks the bolt up and sideways. You'll need to do some civil work to get it installed.

Honestly, I've found a dog is the best deterrent to any kind of trouble.
You have to address the weaknesses of the door. Three things: Make sure the door is made out of a solid material, make sure that the lock bolts into a solid frame and get good solid locks. Also, if you can do it, try to make your door swing out (don't see that much at all here)--if you can, it will be more difficult to kick in. You just have to make sure the door swings in a way that it won't hit the people you want coming in and also, you need to make sure the hinges are on the INSIDE of the house, otherwise a determined visitor will just to take the bolts off of the hinges.

There are some locks that bolt into the top or bottom of the door into the floor or ceiling--at least you will have the doors bolt into concrete or another solid material.
One of the safest methods is to install a secondary steel door (internal hinges) that opens outwards and parallel to the primary wooden door which is usually designed to open inwards.

Any camera is going to have a negative effect on privacy. I would prefer no cameras anywhere. Even if it's my home ad my cameras.
I think that putting cameras to be safe is like a bad habit, I would prefer to take the habit of trying to have a secure place without cameras.

It is possible to live safely without cameras, and that how it used to be not so long ago.
It depends on camera. If it is just old school CCTV that records footage on disk - yes, it is mostly useless.
If it is new, with some computer vision, e.g. detecting unwanted visitor who is messing up with your door - it is another thing.
IMO a camera won't stop a burgler from entering my apartment.
It will only record the break-in scene to watch it later :P

I went to a security firm, specialized in security doors, and found Turkish made steel-wood doors
They are basically steel doors covered with wood with very strong locks (similar to gamer's image 3 lock door, but there is like 4 sets of them). The locks are on all door sides (top-left-right)

They cost 900$ for plain steel door
1100$ if covered with wood

Compared to the price of a normal door (I have no idea how much a normal door cost) do you think its a fair price?
Camera often deter burglar and if it is enough smart can warn household owner about persons who are preparations for burglary (real experience of my friends).

I have one of these doors, one key locks on the bottom (not the floor), in the middle where usually locks are, on top, in the ceiling, and on the left side. Honestly Its easier to break through the wall. I would pay $900 for it. Its better thqn losing your personal belongings inside
Not being pessimistic but in an empty building, given enough time, potential thieves won't be stopped by a solid door. Point is: don't keep cash or valuables in this particular appartment, of course as you already thought, you living alone in the building might have already caught the eye of someone.

Could you please share the info of the firm you went to?
I ended buying a (steel with outer wood cover) door from http://www.wisehouselb.com/
The door is really strong with secure locks on all sides (it also is a sound insulator). it cost me 1k $

Did it fit or did you need to shave off from the wall?
