Many people told me to open my own PC and Mac shop, as I have a degree in Marketing, lot of experience in sales and I know how to mount my own PC from A to Z, PC is my passion since I am a child.
Though desktop PC is not very popular nowadays, laptops market has already some big shops names in my area in Beirut and people rather buy Mac at Mac stores (no?)
Of course if I open a PC shop it will be supported by my marketing expertise like facebook page and website, and other stuff I want to keep secret till then.
So for people who are already in this business, are you selling enough computers (desktop/laptops/macs) to get more than let's say 3000$ personal net gain per month?
When I pass in some PC shops near my house I rarely see people asking for a computer, it's more about cell phones or TVs
Toufic
well this is coming from someone with no marketing education or business expertise.
But most shops are no longer computer shops, but electronic ones. Just like you mentioned "it's more about cell phones or TVs"
If you're going to open a shop, might as well open a full on electronic one. Restricting it to computers won't bring much income. Your bottoms line at best will barely make you last a couple of years. You need to diversify but not too much so you don't loose identity.
All and all, what differs one shop to the other is their service and what they can offer (online browsing, maintenance assistance, and i doubt this exist yet but home visits to fix issues (regardless if it's someone who bought something from you or not, this is becoming a thing in health care, like nursing/doctor doing home visits to check up and maintain on people with chronic disease).
Not an expert here, but 3000$ gain on selling desktops/laptops/macs seems aiming too high without anything else to back you up.
Good luck though. Still see there is a lot of room for improvement in the quality of computer shops in lebanon compared to europe and the states.
