Hi all, I have a Lenovo Y50 laptop for about 3 years now and for some strange reason its hard disk has caused me some problems until one day it decided not to turn on. I took it to a local computer repair shop nearby and he managed to fix it but told me that the hard disk is "dying" and that I should consider changing it soon before it fails again and all my data will be unrecoverable. It's been about one month since this incident but I didn't have any problems until now. Do you think I really should change it before it completely fails? And if I want to change it, I want to get an SSD, so any idea where is the best place (in terms of quality + price) to buy a new internal SSD and install it.
Thank you.
Did you try to run SMART tests to check what is really happening with it and to know stats?
Yes change it. Lenovo are using a shitty brand named HGST; a company acquired by Western Digital. We had so many hdd failures even with our corporate grade Lenovo laptops. We change them immediately as they are not worth the risk.

Put an SSD instead to enjoy much better stability and performance.

I'm travelling from Dubai to Beirut by end of month. Samsung 850 Evo 500GB costs 220$ here. 15$ cheaper than PCandParts (not available in their stock actually)

Installation is fairly simple. Old hdd can be cloned to the SSD so you don't have to reinstall everything

Not really, ill google it and see how its done. Thanks
I second the SMART advice (no pun intended!). It is meant to give you an idea of the health of your hard drive.
For the SSD, I would start by checking out prices on pcandparts.com
I think you should keep an external backup of your important data.
