I use vultr.com, it's pretty cool. I can instanciate VMs across the world, they're cheap and fast. I have even uploaded my own OS image and can use that too.
I started a VM in Paris and tried pinging from there too, lag was around 48ms.
Then I started a server in Silicon Valley and pinged from there; about 190ms.
Then tried pinging from sydney and the latency was like 370ms.
The Sodetel server was often a little bit faster to respond. But you won't really notice the difference.
It seems that the connection goes through Europe, and from there it just gets slower with the distance. Not much surprize.
I could try Amsterdam or Tokyo but maybe I'll do something better with my time!
