Hi everyone,

I'm looking to change my Modem at home, I've had mine for about 7-8 years I'm not even sure anymore.
I'm subscribed to Sodetel and I got the modem from them (SAGEM Modem).

I'm getting some packet loss at home (not sure what causes that exactly) but I feel like changing modems might improve my connection since I'm getting this while gaming and it's really unplayable.

Should I buy a new modem?
If yes should I get one from Sodetel or can you guys recommend a good one?
Currently I'm using this
https://macrotronics.net/product_info.php/tp-link-td-w8961nd-wireless-adsl2-modem-router-300mbps-p-6829

Previously I was using some Technicolor cheap modem from IDM, I noticed a difference once I switched, now the packet loss occurs much less, I even managed to figure out that there is an electricity interference and installed a new cable from the building lines box to the apartment main board and the stability now is superb, sometimes I do have to restart the modem before I start a gaming session to have a better stability, the modem is not top but definitely a big upgrade

I second this. I have the same router and I don't have any issues - However I need to start figuring out a way to clean the spaghetti that is cables in the apartment lol

Thank you guys!!

So there is actually no difference between a modem given by your ISP and any other modem lol. Good to know.
I think you misread, there is a difference, that's why a lot of manufacturers still make DSL modems and some are priced pretty high.

I disagree, after testing both modems there is a very clear difference.

Alrighty so the conclusion is: buying one from Macro beats buying one from your ISP then?
it depends on the chipset used in the modem. not the brand or source you get the modem from.
After having a quick read about chipsets, I guess TP Link uses Broadcom chipsets which tend to be better than other chipsets.

Coolcool, thanks!
