  • Looking for good quality gaming peripherals.

Hello all, long time member and lurker in these forums but never posted.

Recently I have been scouring the internet gathering information from multiple sources to build my own rig, going through reddit, youtube, tom's guide, etc.

2 months ago I assembled my own PC, which was not very hard on the budget nor lenient on performance.

My current rig is:

- Inwin 136 Case
- MSI H170A Gaming PRO Motherboard
- Intel Core i5 6500 Skylake
- Nvidia GTX 1060 Zotac AMP! Edition 6GB
- 240 GB SSD
- 500 GB HDD
- 3 Fans for cooling (2 stock, 1 custom that I salvaged from my last dying rig)
- Kingston 8 GB DDR4 RAM (1 Stick)
- Thermaltake 650 PSU
- LG 25" Ultrawide Monitor

Not the most impressive but does the job at running most games ultra/high at a decent FPS rate. However, I have a few things missing.

I am running on a generic mouse, keyboard and some cheap headsets. I am in a dire need for an upgrade. I am not looking for flashy peripherals with 15 mouse keys, or ultra bright RGB colors, and audiophile headsets.

I am a casual/semi-hardcore gamer playing games such as BF1, GTA V, The Witcher 3, Mad Max, Bioshock, Rainbowsix Siege etc, so a mix of FPS and adventure games.

What I am aiming for is a mixture of good quality hardware, with multiple use for either work related tasks, gaming, or just browsing the web.

I have been eyeing the most these items:

- Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum RGB Tunable Gaming Mouse (or equivalent)
- SteelSeries Arctis 7 Wireless Gaming Headset with DTS Headphone:X 7.1 Surround
- Corsair Gaming K70 LUX Mechanical Keyboard, Backlit Red LED, Cherry MX Red (or equivalent)

However, due to being in Lebanon, and for the fact that most of you maybe know that not everything is at reach.

PCandParts are the most reliable source I have found in Lebanon, but unfortunately they do not have everything one can think of.

So what do you suggest? Where can I find them? and how much are we talking about?

Cheers geeks.
I got the HyperX Alloy mechanical keyboard from virgin and its great, I highly recommend it. It has cherry mx blue switches, typing and gaming is great.

As for the headset I got the Hyperx Cloud core and I am very satisfied with it, the sound quality is amazing for games and music.

Im really liking all the HyperX stuff so maybe you should look into those.
Hello Flakk, thank you for the reply.

I have considered the HyperX Alloy Mechanical keyboard, but isn't too clicky and loud? I was looking into getting red MX cherry switches, for the reason that is being a little bit silent.

Can you tell me more about the headset? How comparable is it from entry level headsets and high level headsets (gaming ones) what sound quality am I going to expect from those, and how comfortable are they?
Any specific budget in mind ?

If i base myself on pcandparts.com , I'd recommend a zowie mouse if you mostly play fpses , it looks simple , and has one of the best sensors on the market . They are in the 70-80 $ price range , and you pick whatever model suits your grip style and hand size .

For the headset , i'd recommend the hyper X cloud 2 which is around 80 $ , sound quality is top notch and better than alot of headsets in this price range .

I can't really recommend a keyboard ( i have a steelseries 6gv2 that i got from outside leb ) , but i do advise you to test different types of mechanical switches ( black , blue , red , ect ) before making a final decision , differences between some switches are night and day .

Do you need a mousepad btw ? I'd recommend a steelseries qck mousepad , they're pretty great and worth the price . ( Be wary though , there are "control" mousepads and "speed" mousepads which are very different)

Cheers

Well no specific budget, but I do not want to break the bank either. As long as the product is of good quality, reviews, and I'm convinced that it will be of good value for me then I will most likely purchase it.

I simply hate the fact that most of the brands that are available here are sub par to many other brands.

For example if the Hyper X Cloud 2 is $80 and the Razer Kraken V2 is $110 I would set on the latter if it is proven to be better, not just brand name & flashiness.

Unfortunately, at PCandParts the only available switch is either green for Razer, or blue for HyperX, which I presume are both the same, am I wrong?

Thank you for the suggestions, the HyperX headsets are on my radar now.

Yeah it is definitely clicky and loud but thats what I love about the keyboard. Its a personal preference honestly.I never had the chance to try out the cherry mx reds to compare but I had seen some youtube videos. You can ask virgin to try out the keyboard in the store, thats what I did there.

As for the headset:
Its the first time I bought a gaming headset so I cant really say much that its great for my needs. I used to have skullcandys and a Sony headset and I felt that the HyperX is alot better in sound quality especially in gaming. One annoyance I had in my old headsets was the bass being too loud and heavy while gaming (battlefield etc..) the HyperX has somewhat a very optimized bass no matter how loud an explosion is, its not annoying to the ears.
It is also very comfortable to wear for long periods of time, I wore it for around two hours straight and I was never annoyed.

I highly recommend it as your first gaming headset, you will be very pleased Im sure.
Don't worry , i won't recommend a product based on brand name , but solely on the quality of said product .

Zowie is renowed for their high quality products , and their prices are a bit higher than their competitors i admit . I'd recommend looking up reviews online and forging an opinion for yourself . Same for the hyper x cloud 2 .
As for the keyboard , try to lookup the differences between switches online , i actually have black switches which offer a lot of resistance but improved my typing experience .
At this point, I think that it is pointless to wait for the items that I have mentioned above in my post -

I am searching online and it is known indeed what Zowie is as a brand for e-sports, HyperX with the 7.1 surround seem like a nice pair of headsets for the price, and the features that you have mentioned seem good in my opinion.

The difference between the switches is acknowledged, but I haven't seen any shop IN Lebanon that sell keyboards with the other switches, have you?
Definitely get the HyperX Cloud 2.
If you want, you can get any pair of headphones then buy a detachable microphone such as VModa BoomPro Microphone (30$+20$ shipping)
i own the hyperx stinger as it is the cheapset one in the series , better look than other one in the series , i have been enjoying it for a month , great one for 50$ , but the con is other headphone in the series have detachable mic and more accessories , so depending on your budget , i recommend hyperx products because i am using one , other products from others manufactures are also good . but i have no experience with them.
as for mouse/key i have cougar deathfire ex rgb combo , great rgb lights but not mechanical and mouse have minimal features i recommend other stuff .
Hello guys, thank you for the insights and recommendations! I am making a decision soon, I shall be updating you soon on what I will be choosing.

Cheers.

Only blue, I don't mind it, as long as it has red switches. I'm actually going for an all in blue theme so it won't matter.

Sure thing I will be posting pics soon hopefully.
HyperX Alloy FPS is an alternative keyboard for 100$.
How much does the M500 cost?

Hi Georges,

The Steelseries Apex M500 Costs around 150$ - It has Cherry MX Red switches (more accurate, best for gaming, great for typing) while the HyperX Alloy FPS has Cherry MX Blue switches (Louder, harder to press on and not ideal for gaming) however, I've contacted PCandParts and they told me that a new shipment of the latter keyboard will be available with the Cherry MX Brown switches (in between blue and red feel)

I am now debating whether I should drop the Apex M500 for the brown keyed Alloy FPS, or get a Roccat Suora which is about the same price, but with TTC brown switches (inferior quality than Cherry MX)

If it was me I'd personally wait. You'll save 50$ or just get a better mouse, headset or even mouse pad!
Plus, from what I've watched/read, Browns are better than Blue/Red.
I'd avoid the Roccat. The only switches I find worth it are Cherry, Gateron and Kailh.
Razer switches are slightly modified Kailhs.
