*Edit: got it to work after fiddling with the pins using a paper clip for 30 mins. My fingers hurt from all the pressure though. By far the most frustrating part of this first time experience.
I've tried using a lot of force (my fingers are numb) while supporting the motherboard with my thumb on the other side so it doesn't bend/break and I cannot for the life of me make that 24 pin power connector latch on the mobo socket.
I checked all pins and nothing seems to be bent/out of place.
I also tried gently rocking the connector sideways to no avail. No matter what I try I still need about 1 millimeter for the latch to lock on the motherboard dent.
I turned on the pc (it's not connected to a screen or any hard drives yet) but the cpu fan and the VGA worked just fine for 5 minutes until I shut it down.
Now, I've read so many mixed opinions on this (esp. on Tom's Hardware) where some people say it's fine if the connector is tight in place. Mine is well in place... even when it's not latched on the motherboard socket, you have to pull with a lot of force to remove the connector.
Some other people say that if it's not 100% in place it could cause the pins to overheat and damage the motherboard or power supply.
What can I do in such a case ?
Mind you, the motherboard is in the case and everything is connected. Do I just disconnect all wires and take the motherboard out and put it on a box and try again with both thumbs ? Or do I just leave it as it is and use the pc ? I'm out of ideas.

Glad to hear its all is fixed.
Hey we learn everyday a new thing ;)

Indeed, but as I said it was the most frustrating part about building a new PC. My fingertips are slightly injured/scratched (tiny superficial cuts) because of all the pushing and pressure I had to use (while supporting the motherboard at the back of course).
