  • Rumors: No more Sony TVs in Lebanon

I heard rumors here and there that Sony (Fattal) will stop bringing Bravia TVs to Lebanon, this is really a pity since (Egyptian) Samsung TVs don't last and LG 4k are not real 4k.
Sony 4k TVs + Android are superb sets but unfortunately they decided they are not selling too much in our country :(
Hoping that another Lebanese company will bring them.
Btw do we have Shap,Panasonic...TVs?
Sony is a somewhat dying company in Lebanon. (In my opinion)
They stopped importing mobile phones not sure if they resumed.
Sony World in ABC Dbayeh closed and one can only assume low sales.
100% dying
They implemented "anti-hacking" ban, that all ISPs in world going nuts about. None of PS4 / smart tv's able to work behind nat, because they are banning ips and not cooperating with ISP to find hackers. Some of ISPs i know did troubleshooting, and they got ban, while on account was connected only normal smart tv.
Most hilarious, many US ISP's are using NAT for ipv4 only, but sony doesn't have ipv6 login servers!!!
Sure after such lunatic policy i will avoid anything they have, that depends on internet.
What I like in Sony TVs is the durability thanks to their power supply system and surge protection (completely lacking with samsung) and Android apps, 4K upscaling is also the best in the market
It's a shame, Sony TVs are by far the best to buy, but they are overpriced compared to the competition. That's probably the reason for low sales in a country where people want to save every penny.
They are out in the Televisions Line , as Khoury Home (Nadim the Show Room Manager in Bir Hasan) told me who he a re-seller for Fattal. They will concentrate more on the Gaming Sector which is logical since its profitable especially with the release of the PS4 Pro , PS VR ... Sony 2016 Bravia TV line are not diversified this year , they missed a very affordable great performance model which is the X800D , they have the X850D and X930D in the show rooms only (one for USD 1600 and the Second for USD 2600). I suspect they will introduce any models for 2016 line series and I suspect that Fattal will introduce the 2017 line series in June 2017.

Actually , they have not been doing any advertising campaigns for the last tow year for their TVs and ironically on the most cost effective way (Social Media - if you look at at Sony Lebanon Official Face Book Page - Only PlayStation promotions) , they have not been doping any promotions etc.. I am a high consciousnesses that the decision to close the TV Line in Lebanon has been taken several years back and 2017 will be the execution of the decision.

Sony TVs are great with a great builds and reliability , but a simple google search will show you the profit being generated from PlayStation Line compared to the TVs line, the consoles arm is generating a lot of money. Keep in put that Sony 2016 models are facing some high input lag , ironically with the Lunch of PlayStation 4 , that needs a 4k / HDR Tv to attain the best from it , the 2016 TVs Line should go with this and promote their TVs but ironically they did not introduce an HDR Gaming Mode that reduce input lag , knowing that input lag on a 2160p + HDR processing increases compared to Full HD none HDR as the case of the normal PlayStation. Only the Sony Z9D (Very Overpriced) has it. Many Sony 2016 line are complaining about many issues that Sony 2016 TV Line are facing.

I was an expert in this post , specifically that Sony removed on their official support community. I read all the posts , similar posts are being rolled on AVForums.com of people facing problems with the input lag from 2016 Line (specifically the X 850 d and X 930 D - both running on Android 5.1.1). Shame on you Sony , as a major Audio/Visual company , by jeopardizing your facts and masking soon solutions for customers and mainly enthusiast gamer(s) which input lag plays a great factor in their experience. All Sony official replies on the community , before the post removal, where ambiguous without any clear solution especially people customers get stuck with the dilemma of purchasing a 2016 TV line with a Sony PS4 Pro combo. They need to return both , in order to replace the TV.
The X830C 49'' 4K of last year was a great bargain for only 800$, if they updated it to HDR it would have fix the poor blacks problem but Sony's marketing doesn't want to make a ''cheap'' TV as good a the more expensive ones.
Now I was expecting the X700D and X800D 4K TVs to come for Christmas for 700 to 900$ price range, though Fattal decided otherwise :(
Since this news CTC is keeping high prices on their 4K TVs because their main competitor in Lebanon is dead
Fattal will stop bringing Sony Bravia TVs.
probably an office from Sony middle east will handle the TV sector in lebanon.
i think philips toshiba and panasonic are better than sharp...
Toshiba could be a good alternative but they stopped using Android OS on newer models (too expensive?) and the lack of reviews is a killer as we have no clue about input lag, black levels....
Philips TVs are terrible. I had one and my friend currently has one and we both hated the color reproduction and lack of vibrancy. They're nothing compared to Panasonic or Toshiba for example.
Regardless of the Brand - As a Gamer Enthusiast or a Movie Lover I look at important factors and not just plug in the receiver / antenna cable, and this requires some comprehensive search including reviews on 4k.com , Rtings.com , Users' Technical Feedbacks on AVforums.com , Youtube Tech Channels , other Tech Chanels websites etc.. Best 4k HDR Gaming Sets Charts , Digital Founday , Users Reviews (Not Tech Websites Individuals who buy a TV and spontaneously post a review on youtube from an end user prespective - really go ones no marketing ) etc..

In a Highly evolved tech world , TV sets are not simply going to a Show Room and picking a brand you like , many end users are not technical but it's wiser to get the best of what you are paying , because Salesmen want to sell and do not go deep from a technical side (most probably their knowledge is narrow or the end user knowledge is narrow). Since we are in a Tech Forum and every body here is at least has a technical knowledge and can do a search this will not be a problem.

Look for Input Lag Especially on 4K 60 hz with HDR or 4 4 4 Chroma.

See if the TV Set supports HDR Gaming Mode.

See if the TV has a wide color gamut and how many HDMI ports accepts an HDR Signal. Samsung Nail it this year for about 22ms in this mode.

See if the TV has a native 10bit Panel or 8bit + Dithering.

See the native real refresh rate of the TV (60 hz or 120 hz ) this will help reducing motion blur , skip the marketing things of refresh rates 200hz Real Motion , 600 hz etc.. Are are software logic tricks to make things more smooth.

See what is the panel IPS vs VA , VA have better contrast , blacks and gray uniformity but narrow viweing angles compared to IPS.

Differentiate between old series & new ones - Products Lines of 2015 Series vs 2016 Series Naming terminology get be deceive and you may face problems in differentiating (very similar designs) like the Samsung JS vs KU one 2015 and the later 2016. Ironically some 2015 models or Full HD Models are more expensive then 2016 4k models.

Some TVs like the Sony X850D can actually accept a 120 hz signal so you can game on above 60fps. Majority accept 60hz signal.

I think Salesmen will not highlight to you these things

Read the reviews /User Feedbacks about the Contast Levels , Brightness , Blacks, Gray Uniformity etc..

2160p is an old thing "relatively" HDR is the the new thing that will level up your entertainment level (wide color gamut , shifting between bright and dark areas , blacks appear blacks etc.. ) Movies / Clips on NetFlix , Youtube , Google Prime , Games , AMD / Nvidia , PS4 Pro , Xbox One S .. Reaching upcoming PC monitors in 2017 will get HDR support and the list will expand.

The Logic here how shall I benefit from grabbing a Toshiba , Sharp , Sony , X Brand because it is my favorite and skipping all these factors that either make my experience very immersive and joyful or it can turn it to a misreable experience.
You forgot the durability factor, samsung made in egypt will fail after 2 years max, repairing it will cost you like a new one
vegetaleb wroteYou forgot the durability factor, samsung made in egypt will fail after 2 years max, repairing it will cost you like a new one
Durabilty is important sure but to me - my tv cycle is 2- 3 years at max - I look for feautures on durability to attain my maxiumum joy from a TV set. Durability for a mediocre / average performance TV , in the TV world, is nonsense to me. I can pay 1000 USD for a HDR Samsung TV that has an input Lag of 22ms in HDR Gaming mode and not pay 1700 USD for a Sony TV that is is more durable but has an input lag of 50ms on 4k HDR Mode. 1000 USD I can throw the tv set after 2 - 3 years " for durability reasons" in case it damaged and not set for a 1700 USD investment for a mediocre / average performance which is a hiccup in the throat to sell a more expensive TV later on.

Actually I had this feeling about Samsung Durability but day after day I guess it is a "Sterotype" Samsung 2016 offerings are the most fully fledged this year. Sony TVs on their forums are get fail also any electronic device can fail. For what the Lebanese Market is offerings
