Hello,
I am currently looking for a Laptop which will be used for daily business usage, browsing, photo editing, as well as a bit of coding and might be used to test some different environments on a virtual machine.
What do you advise for a Windows laptop in the range of 1000$ to 1500$? I was currently looking for some ultraportable options varying between HP and Lenovo like the Envy and Spectre Series from HP and the Yoga and Thinkpad Series from Lenovo.
Is anyone here currently using any of them? Any verdict?
Thank you.

Spec wise Y700 is the best option, but it's not ultraportable and the build quality is sub-par.
If you're willing to wait, see what apple has to offer in the next Macbook pro. The current MBP 13inch 256gb costs around 1300$ and it is expected that the sequal will be similar in price. For your use cases a Macbook Pro would be perfect.

Yes but macbooks are a bit pricey, a while ago i saw a macbook with price about 1000$, maybe a bit more and it was a dual core. Im persobally going to get a y700 very soon, probably even this week, spec wise, but its still not the most portable lappy, so if you really want it to be portable then maybe you and the y700 arent meant to be, and btw dont mind waiting for its price to drop as it already dropped in june by 200-300$ i guess. I want to buy the y700 since it is enough for me, it can handle all the games that i play, its portable enough for me, vents are on the back, i can put an ssd and hdd in it at the same time, up to 16gb ram, quadcore. It seems its specs are enough for you.

If your budget is within 1500$ you can afford a very nicely specced Macbook Pro 13", just wait until the new models arrive, should be soon

macbooks are no go. All New models will hit the stores in 2-3 months

I have an E550 (lenovo thinkpad) and I am very happy.
I dual boot windows/linux use it for watching movie, reading news, coding a bit using visual studio on window + sql server and light gaming..
It's a dual core i5 I didn't try running any virtual machine on it but I think running 1 or 2 VM at the same time should be ok.
PS: It supports max 16GB ram
Marduk
And i advise you not to get an hp, the chargers can easily go bad,the batteries can go bad, even the laptop itself can go bad. I know a guy that bought an original charger many times until he bought one which isnt original and its still alive till now, but the laptops battery is dead.

@scorz @Marduk, thank you for the tips. I want to go with Windows OS Laptop on which some VMs' OS can be linux. So you prefer not to go with an ultraportable but go with a laptop with some specs that can handle what I am requesting although the CPUs installed and the RAMs are enough. Still don't know what to go for. Thank you again.

The topic was cleaned up. Please respect one another and avoid fueling flame wars.

Well locha, if you need a very portable one then go for an ultrabook, but if you dont mind going for something a bit heavier you can get something with better specs, cooling, more ram which help in running multiple vms, your choice. If you want you can post the ones you're really considering and we can suggest the best for you.

@Marduk,
What do you think of the following models although I've checked deeply in the reviews of each one of them and what I care about is the usage and scalability since they have similar CPUs. As for the SSD for the models in which it is not available, I have a Spare one that I can plug in.
LENOVO YOGA 500/BLACK INTEL CORE I5-6200U 8 GB DDR3 1 TB + 8 GB SSHD 2GB DEDICATED VGA GT920 NO 14 FULL HD IPS MULTITOUCH/360 DEGREE FOLDING
LENOVO THINKPAD YOGA 460 CORE I7-6500U 8GB DDR3 1 TB 5400 RPM INTEL GRAPHICS NO ODD 14
LENOVO THINKPAD T440P CORE I7-4710MQ 8GB DDR4 1 TB 5400 RPM NVIDIA GT730M 1 GB (OPTIMUS) DVDRW 14
LENOVO THINKPAD E460 CORE I7-6500U 8GB DDR3 1 TB 5400RPM RADEON R7 M360 2GB NO ODD 14
HP OMEN 15-AX000NE CORE I7-6700HQ 12GB DDR4 1TB + SSD 128GB 4GB NVIDIA NO 15.6 FHD
HP HP ENVY X360 15-W107NE CORE I7-6500U DUAL 12GB 1TB 2GB NVIDIA NO 15.6 FHD TOUCH
HP ENVY 13-D000NE CORE I7-6500U DUAL 8GB 512GB SSD HD GRAPHICS NO 13.3 QHD
Thanks in advance.
Marduk
Well it seems to be that the best laptop here is probably the HP OMEN 15-AX000NE, the lenovo with the best cpu is the LENOVO THINKPAD T440P, a big difference between these 2 laptops is the gpu, the hp has a better gpu, and it also has 2 drives, more ram, but its less portable. Can you post prices and from where your planing on buying them. And do you care about the gpu, are you planning to do anything graphical or gaming or do you only want the performance in cpu?
Locha
@Marduk
The 2 online stores that are almost offering those models are Microcity and PCandParts which prices are listed online unless you would like to propose other competitive sources.
The graphics that I will be using will be basically photoshop but no gaming will be done, maybe Football Manager which eventually doesn't need so much graphics power.
Thank you mate for the feedback.
Marduk
I think i found a good lappy for you, Lenovo IdeaPad 700/White 80RU006-5AX
Intel Core i7-6700HQ
16GB Ram
1TB HDD + 128GB SSHD
DVDRW
15.6" LED Full HD
LAN, WIFI/BT
Radeon R7-M360 4GBÂ Dedicated VGA
This laptop should be perfect for you, great for multitasking, and its gpu isnt that powerful as you dont need a really powerful one, and the laptop looks awesome and neet. Its price is $1049.00 (10% vat not included)
Marduk
Theres also this hp:
HP Pavilion 15-bc000ne Intel Core i7-6700HQ 8GB Ram 1TB 7200RPM HDD+128GB SSD - 15.6" LED Full HD LAN, WIFI GT965M 4GB VGA Bluetooth/Cam/Windows 10 $1045.00*
Its a good laptop, the only difference between this laptop and the lenovo one is that this offers a better gpu but less ram(less ram=less vms and less multitasking)
Marduk
I have a question myself and i hope someone can answer, on microcity's website, for any laptop theres the dealer price and the user price, for which would a customer like me should pay?
anayman_k7
I didn't follow up the thread well but Macrotronics just listed this in the specials section (sale)

Marduk
This macbook costs 1.5k and comes with a dual core i5, only 256gb ssd, weak gpu, but comes with a led 2560x1600 display which isnt bad, however the laptop still isnt worth it.
Salloum
Buying a Macbook now is a terrible idea because the new ones are right around the corner, and they will most likely be the same prices as the ones now. Apple usually prices their new hardware at the same current price and gives discounts on the outgoing models.

Would you consider a Sony ?
