Hello Folks, I decided to buy a new HDD for my computer, after some digging I finally settled on two choices:

- Seagate 1TB ST1000DM003 7200RPM SATA III 64MB $56.00

- Western Digital 1TB WD1003FZEX 7200RPM SATA III 64MB Black Edition $80.00

But now I am a little confused between both, any recommendation on which one to choose?

Note: I have an SSD for the OS, and this drive will be for data storage + some heavy games or software
I say go with Seagate, their new drives have a smaller failure rate than WD drives. Personally, I only go with Hitachi/HGST (while owned by WD still make better HDDs than them) and Toshiba as they nith make better HDDs than both Seagate and WD, but finding them in Lebanon is a pain in the ass.

WHAT? No. Just No.

HGST are the shittiest drives you could ever have in your machine; they are owned by WD, but they are not WD. We use Lenovo T series at work and for the last years they came with HGST drives. The drives wouldn't last 2 months and just start to fail.

We've replaced them with Seagate and even Lenovo stopped using HGST and also started using Seagate as well.

We've had exactly 117 HGST failed drives this year so far.

Personally, Seagate are ok but I strongly recommend sticking with WD drives. The black series are just too good.
You might have had units from a bad batch (buying an HDD is a luck of the draw thing, really), but a nearly 1% failure rate each year out of tens of thousands of drives (according to Backblaze https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliability-stats-q1-2016/) makes me recommend them more than any other manufacturer.

The new Seagate drives are more than okay, they're as good a WD, but cheaper and more reliable (also according to Backblaze).

Blacks are overpriced and overrated, if I want to buy a hard drive I'd either go with a Caviar Blue or a Barracuda, they're loud, use more power and why would I get a 1TB HDD if I can get an ever so slightly slower 2TB drive for cheaper?
From my experience with Western Digital and Seagate, it was in favor of the Seagate,
my friend got (WD 1TB WD10EZEX 7200RPM SATAIII), it broke in 10 months, he RMAed it from pcandparts and they gave him a new one, meanwhile my (Seagate 1TB ST1000DM003 7200RPM S-ATA III 64MB) is 2 years old now and still perform very well, here is a benchmark for it few days ago.
Western Digital has a better reputation but at the end it is somehow a matter of luck, choosing Seagate might have more slight chance to have issues with the drive. Good luck

I got a WD three weeks ago .
I have not had the time to install it yet. I will try to do so today. Hopefully no problems :)

Edit: Migration complete. Over half a million files moved. No issues so far. By the way, it looks like Microcity are out of Seagate disks. Maybe there is higher demand for those.
