  • Macbook pro retina screen problem

My mackbook pro screen had a thin line on the left, suddenly the left part looks as if it was hit and now a broad line covering the left side.
Is there anything I can do? Or do I have to replace the screen?
That's most probably a display failure. You can replace it, it is costy, retina display.

You can screenshoot the whole display then view it, if there are no stripes, you can make sure it isn't your graphics card.
mostly likly the display, this kind of things happen if the display has "dinged". but it never fails to double check connect laptop via HDMI to a TV.
Take your Mac apart, try to check for the screen connections if they are well together - I've had a similar issue with a toshiba laptop where the screen was partially red, all I had to do is tighten the connection behind the screen with some tape. Not so stable but still works.
I connected it to tv, and no problems. However, when I press on the back of the display some lines disaapear. The bad thing is that there is a black spot which never goes away.

Does anyone know how much it costs to replace the display? And where.
If some of the white lines disappear when you press against it, this could be something cracked or about to burn out. Have someone take a look at it.
A black spot could be dead pixels. While one dead pixel is not the end of the world, many adjacent ones mean the panel is damaged.
Did this by any chance start happening due to power outages or surges?
No, I had a thin line on the left edge for about a year.
No power outage issues for sure, I was hilding the laptop and I had papers inserted which I suspect pressed on the screen.

Can you reccomend anyone?
I figured out the problem, the aluminum is a little bent due to holding papers which pressed against the screen.
If you want to get it fixed, I strongly recommend that you (somehow) fix it abroad in an Apple Store.
you are right, the problem is I can't send it abroad, it's costly to ship it back and forth . so i'll take my chances here.
I have a similar issue, retina early 2013, the screen has a white line at the top, and the colors after that line are faded, I will be buying a screen from Apple from Amazon and shipping it here to change it myself, the screen is about $300. It is the display with the whole aluminum chassis, I think the wifi antenna is embedded inside the screen chassis so it has 3 connectors to the board, replacing is easy, the screen is expensive.
I have a cousin in USA who can buy me a screen, I really would avoid apple because it will be more expensive than anywhere else. I will be looking online Ebay, Amazon to try to get a good deal.
Not too sure about the Macbook screen prices but Apple's replacement parts aren't very expensive. You can replace an iPhone screen for 99$, and an iPhone Plus screen for 129$ (or 129 and 159, forgot) but still, it's even cheaper than buying a screen in Lebanon, so check at the Apple Store first before going for amazon
I will check with apple first. I checked in here and price ranged from 420$ to 520$
Just finished talking to apple US, and they said it would cost me 199$ max ! Deal
Awesome. Now you have to convince them to sell you one without installing it. lol
you are right Salloum, they won't!

I am considering buying from amazon and ship it, is there any extra cost besides shipping? (customs, vat....)
