Hey!
I am sure some of you guys might have bought french laptops with azerty keyboard layout, or german qwertz.
Anyway, a couple of days ago, while i was surfing, i stumbled upon a different keyboard layout.
Namely dvorak and colemak, which seem to be the most famous.
These layouts are claimed to be more ergonomic, and more hand-traveled-distance efficient than qwerty(z)/azerty keyboard which were designed over 100 years ago, not based on scientific distribution of letters, but more on how to keep the buttons from malfunctioning.
Most of us are already used to qwerty, are there any advantages to getting used to modern layouts?
Could anyone enlighten us?
Apart from less hand travel distance and less fatigue after long typing sessions, DVORAK and COLEMAK offer no real advantage (other than being cool and shit). It's a tradeoff tbh, you either keep using old and boring QWERTZ/QWERTY/AZERTY or switch to DVORAK/COLEMAK to "decrease fatigue after long typing sessions" (aka be a hipster).
Then i guess it's not interesting.
if it ain't broke dont fix it.
i read one time that the other layouts were more popular in the old days due to less mechanical issues occurring on the keyboard. keyboard maintenance was not cheap so at that time the layout with the minimum wearing made more sense.

I read that qwerty was designed for this sole purpose.
