Hello, I'm in grade 11 and want to start practicing for the SAT. I know that it's heading into a new format, but I was just wondering if anyone who has scored over 1500 (writing excluded) can offer some valuable, general tips that may come in handy. Thanks in advance!

P.S: I'd really appreciate it if anyone wishing to offer advice would post his current grade and SAT score.
Tip1: don't make a huge deal out of it. That's the biggest thing I see with people sitting for the test, the 5hour test time is misleading, it's not as hard as people say. Last I was told the new format will be easier still.
Tip2: don't overwork yourself while studying. This implies getting enough sleep, food and social interactions. You don't have to lock yourself in a room studying for 3 months to score well on the SAT.
Tip3: Remember it's.a logic test and not one of those memorising tests they give you in school. You're not even supposed to study any material at all for the test(according to college board) and honestly I agree. I didn't study those ridiculous yellow cards in the books and did all the previouses and did just fine. So be confident in your abilities and if you have what it takes you'll get the score you want.
Tip4: Remember you can sit for it as many times as you like. Being in grade 11 gives you plenty of time to try. Always try at least twice to see if you can improve your performance

I scored 1410 when I sat for the test even though I barely had 12-13/20 in school. Athough that was over 3 years ago, not quite the 1500 you're asking for but I hope I helped.

Good luck and keep us posted with your progress!
Scored a 1250 while playing games non-stop, did like two-three practice tests. My advise is to start with a practice test, take note of your weaknesses and tailor them with the courses, once you've done that keep destroying previous tests and search the internet for any test available, even torrent some if you can. And as Elied said don't work too hard or you'll burn out, stay relaxed and you'll be fine.

Good luck!!
I agree with what's been said already. Studying is essential but truth be told the SAT (especially the math part) is a great tool to gauge a person's intellect. I've seen people study for months and months and not even crack 1200 on it. It requires a lot of logic and reasoning. I took it just once, without studying math at all, and my score was 530 in English and 750 in math (back then we didn't have writing). The English part is much harder than math in my opinion so you should concentrate on it. best of luck!
Do the practice tests and get lots of sleep the night prior. The questions themselves are easy; the problem is with the length of the test. Perhaps you can do a little research to find some tips on how to pull through the 4 hours.

I'm glad they are making revisions. Standardized tests, especially those that are 4 hours long, have to be one of the most pointless activities someone can do.

My advice (for a french educated student) is to get yourself comfortable with the math vocab. Usually the questions are super easy but can sound complicated.
I got 1560 at my first and last SAT. Since now you only have the choice of doing the New SAT so you won't need to work on Critical Reading. The Essay part is completely different, go check out how it works. Don't waist your time on memorizing words and lessons the SAT's is all about practicing. Work on a couple of tests and you'll have nothing to worry about.
