Hey,
I was able to get in contact with a private internet provider to which my friend is subscribed to.
Among several plans, I selected the following:
* 8M speed before noon. (before 12 PM)
* 4M speed in the afternoon. (after 12 PM)
* 4GB limit per day, limit exceeds, speed drops to 0.5-1M, then gets reset at 12 AM. (about 124GB per month)
* Stable ping from 50ms to 70ms on CS:GO. (according to my friend)
The guy got to my place and checked whether it is possible to provide me such a plan, he was looking for a few buildings to point the satellite dish at, and luckily, he was able to locate them in my balcony. (My balcony covers all of Beirut and a huge portion of the Metn area)
He will be installing everything next Monday, he also told me I'd be able to use the internet the same day of installation (no need to wait a month like regular ISPs make you do)
The installation costs 300$, and the internet subscription costs 100,000L.L per month (66$)
I am currently a Cyberia 2M Unlimited plan subscriber paying 50$ per month with a ping above 130ms and an internet speed of less than 10Kb/s (I got FUP'ed for spending more than 80GB this month), so according to me, the satellite guy's plan is a thousand times better.
What do you guys think about that? I'm getting it for sure but do you think there might be a better option?

One word man: WOW! Awesome!
I have slow cable connection that i pay 25$ for! It's not worth 10$! I have been looking for an alternative since there's no landline phone lines in my building!
AVOlio
You've been suffering from slow speeds and high pings with Cyberia.
If you have a landline in the house, apply for ogero 2m unlimited.
Get a subscription from any internet guy of the neighborhood (no need to pay a sum of 300$ for installation from this guy),though you will pay for installation but a lot less than 300$.
Endure for one-two months with that cable connection also (as already you are not satisfied with cyberia, endure a simple cable connection also), and then once ogero has finished, you will have no more internet problems or ping problems.
Johnaudi
The problem is 2M, it's extremely slow even when non-FUP'ed. 200Kb/s does not match my work status, even though it does the job, it does it in a slow basis.
I switched to 4M last year, they never changed it, they kept blaming the central every month for "not having enough room".
I don't think 2M unlimited would be a go-again for me as I'm a heavy internet user. (All of my work is remotely done)
What are the cons of having a satellite connection instead of cabled?
MrElie
My friend also owns an ISP company and I did all the setup for him.
Let me explain you how this goes. The guy buys something called bandwidth from a 3rd party reseller or from a verified Ogero ISP.
These bandwidth are called "E1"
The E1 is normally 2 mb up/down and it cost around 400 $ ( minimum )
So, this ISP needs to make money because paying 400 $ for a 2 mbps connection isn't really a quite catchy deal.
Therefore, he goes and installs a CACHE server. In my case I use "ThunderCache" which also most of the ISP's in Lebanon uses it. ( Even ogero, sodetel etc )
After installing the cache, he then creates something called a "RADIUS SERVER". The Radius Manager will allow him to create bundle deals and plans for selling internet to the people.
So basically if he is giving you 8mbps as you are stating the cost is minimum 1K+ WHICH makes this all a SCAM the ISP is trying to sell you.
I work as an IT manager at a very reputable company and we have around 12 branches in Lebanon. we pay around 440 USD/month for a 2mbps connection.
Regarding the Radius plans that are setup, there is FUP policy stated that if you exceed the 1 GB bandwidth each day you will be reverted to a smaller plan. but even though he have this amazing 8mbps as he is stating, it's a CACHED connection therefore it's being used by let's say 50 users other than you. and funniest part is CACHING.
If you don't understand the concept of caching please do comment below and I'll explain what caching does exactly.
Regarding your ping, it will :LOOK: like you have a nice ping but in fact its also cached.
Anyway if you need anything else let me know i will gladly assist you.

How can I check my real ping? I know that mine is cached and the amount of packet loss is so huge.

ping google's DNS at 8.8.8.8.
vegetaleb
It's not that better than 6MB ADSL plans, unless you live in a region where you can't access internet.
Also is it shared ip like in the cabled internet times? if yes then it will be a pain in the *** as all website like K2S have limits on ip, same goes for P2P softwares as the download bandwidth will be overloaded

HE could cahce youtube, normal http traffic, but caching would not work with udp packets sent for online games or for p2p torrents.
So are you saying that for non-cached traffic the limit is not 4GB?
MrElie
Of course he won't cache udp packets. I was clarifying that the way he boosts his connection is by using cache, therefore at times the connection seems a bit fast ( when you are watching a video cached ) but when it comes to gaming your connection will be shitty and you will explore lag spikes like hell. therefore it's not recommended to get a broadband connection.
MrElie
You can do like me :-)
Pay 400$/month and get your own E1 . 2mbps up/down and have a great gaming experience.
The connection is a dedicated 2mbps and is not shared neither cached.
I get a 50 ms stable ping to Europe and around 90 ms ping stable to USA.
That's what I call gaming.
Adnan
That's what I call flushing money down the toilet.

@MrElie, I don't understand, how is that a scam? I've seen my friends' speed live, and it's amazing.

As @Mrelie was saying caching make the experience better, i would like to add that it only caches port 80 that means 22 % of total bandwidth, youtube dont get cached as it been reverted to (443) https, you cant cache latency as it uses icmp protocol you can do a d-nat to the pointed server for icmp echo reply to be pointed to a local one, almost forgot to tell you that thundercache only cache static and partial contents not dynamic ones

You are absolutely right and correct about what you are saying. Thundercache indeed doesn't cache dynamic content BUT there are new softwares in the market that does cache port 443 and it even caches android and ios apps.

Can confirm 100%. My provider can cache youtube and apps.

Ios Apps and updates can be cached easily, google play store and youtube cannot be cached but theirs something new arrived to lebanon called google cache, a CDN provided by google to some ISPs and @MrElie i agree those new softwares that caches 443 are not complica443 and new, squid 2.7 can do it BUT the main problem is the certificates, it can be bypassed by a way that costs about 800k $
MrElie
@mhamadhdb you are right about the google CDN.. you can however cache youtube with a valid certificate with no 800k $ lol
I setup a firewall at work and i can cache with it everything without paying anything :) i got the certificate on the appliance and it works flawlessly. anyway I would like to discuss this with you someday and learn from your expertise.I'm sure we can learn from each other. What do you do in life?
mhamadhdb
Yeah you can do it in a small network install the certificate into each pc but hell thats a pain in the ass if you a re a provider
I work in the NOC department at Data Plus S.A.R.L
MrElie
actually you don't need to install the certificate on each pc if you give firewall bypass on some specific ports. The appliance will provide the certificate for you and send it without the hassle of installing a certificate.
