We are all lebanese here, and probably most of us are with a private ISP.
So this thread here is to spill your anger towards them without being judged.

As you can see I'm very excited for this thread. Can we rant about the internet in general?

As you wish.
Everything is accepted in my book.

Alright.
Screw Lebanon when it comes to internet/communication. We take one step forward and twenty steps back. We've come a long way the past few years but we're still miiiiiles behind countries that are much worse than us in pretty much everything else. We pay a shit-ton of money for services that cost a fraction outside. Google Fiber's 1Gbps plan costs $100 a month. No piece of shit FUP, no questions asked, nothing. (I know some people would say "Well, it's Google", and I agree. But even 1/100th of what they offer is nothing but a wet dream for most of us.) Here you pay that for that speed divided by about 125 times, with an unreasonable limit and crappy servers, high latency, unbelievable instability and terrible service. It's unbearable. Same shit goes for cell phones. Fuck Alfa. Fuck Touch. A bunch of thieves, the lot of them.
We're hindered by corruption and I mean.... Hell... we don't have a fucking president and barely a damn government and our parliament full of useless shitheads won't even meet because X would have gotten pissed or Y hadn't gotten his dick sucked for the millionth time that morning.
Got a bit off topic, but sadly every issue we have always comes back to the corruption in this country.
They ask why the people who graduate can't wait to leave, and it's because as long as this is how it is, it's barely hospitable.

that moment when you buy an office that costs you $300,000 then you find out the next week that theres no solution for a nearby internet except some temporary wireless machines - hell you can't even send an email from office to run your business.
on another note, I find people in here " happy " with a 90 MS ping while if people in europe or USA get that ping they describe it as " heavy lag " yet people still enjoy online gaming i dont know for what reason.
briefly and shortly, no ISP can yet provide a proper internet in that corrupted country, dont bother switching and trying... sit and wait for fiberoptics in 2020 ( probably will be in 2030 )

I think this is not allowed here.

OK, first of all as both @MrClass and @Georges00 mentioned, according to rule number 5, no ranting is allowed on this website, and that we have Facebook or any other website for that. Now don't get me wrong here guys, I am fully on your side. Last month I have been subscribed to the 2M unlimited plan through wise, and they only provided me with 1M WITH FUP, so I know something or two about ranting. Anyways, rather than ranting some more, I will provide my experience thus far with private ISPs and FUP.
First things first, let's talk about the FUP (with Wise at least). You have about a Gig or so of general usage daily before it hits, and it hits hard. After that period of grace, YouTube videos won't even load at 144p and general internet usage is slower by about 50%. The only good news is that the speed would not drop below the 50% mark. Now in terms of torrents, they run at a constant speed interval going from 30kb/s to 70kb/s, and never more (Note that I use a private torrent website, so seeds are in the hundreds, and therefore are not the issue). Pings, surprisingly are well; before you hit the FUP limit of the day, the ping is just as well as before I activated the unlimited plan at 100 ms, sometimes as low as 90ms, even during peak hours. When the FUP hits, the pings stay surprisingly well on all steam games, and really anything except League of Legends, and that is at about 130 ms. League of Legends then simply becomes unplayable; it disconnects for good without a solution.
Moving on to download solutions for the FUP plan, VPNs and proxies do not work as far as my knowledge goes. I have tried all the VPNs I could get my hands on and proxies but still nothing. The torrent speeds remain constant and the ping simply worsens. I know that you would probably say that the speed throttling is on the ISP's side and there is nothing I can do about it, but here is where you are wrong. I can't do anything for your torrents, but concerning your regular downloads the solution is FlashGet. This might seem like an advertisement, but this is the only downloader that actually works. The speeds on my downloads do not drop below 100kb/s. Better yet, you can partition your download as to be able to pause and continue it later (yes, as of now you can only split it to 10 peices, but do you have anything better?).
Anyways, not touching on anything political, I can't wait to finish my university studies and get out of Lebanon due to the stupid system this country is being run by. Feel free to ask anything about FlashGet, and if I can help I will.

You know what grinds my gears? How Ogero wires up the telephone cabinet for my(and others') buildings, and I showed this picture to a friend of mine in Australia he said anyone who does a job like this could get jailed
Wouldn't be surprised if a major reason for many people who can't get higher DSL speeds is from the horrific wiring on the cabinets

Ok, I'll keep it fast and simple.
Why is it that everytime that there is a problem with connections tech support blames the centrale?!
ragdoll
I'm almost scared to look at the cable management in my building.
They usually blame the centrale because they don't know what else to say, I guess.

ISPs have a thread where you can put constructive feedback (be it negative or not).
Please check the rules before posting:
Don't create topics to rant and complain. There are more appropriate channels for that (e.g., facebook).
