Hi guys,
So my current tv receiver is one offered by my local (satellite guy) it costs a one time fee of 100,000l.l and u simply plug in ur satellite cable into it and u get about 350 channels with good quality(but not hd) and you continue paying your satellite bill monthly(not dish is required)...now my question is can i just buy another receiver (one that has an hdmi conx and offers 1080p viewing) and replace my receiver(which is a dcr 5600..if it helps)

Ps: the receiver that i wanna get is SRT4922

Regards : )
The receiver needs to be configured by your satellite guy.
Just an FYI, you won't be getting HD quality pictures because he is not transmitting in HD. I am not saying you won't get a better picture--it just wont be in HD.

And I am pretty sure the receiver you want wont work--you need to find a receiver for cable which is configured a bit different, and then have your satellite guy configure it. The SRT 4922 if I am not mistaken, is a satellite receiver, not a cable box. Talk to the satellite guy you want to buy a receiver from and tell him what you need--you will be taken to a different group of boxes. And before buying, tell your satellite guy what you want to do and see if he is going to configure it for you. I know the cable box I have is a POS and I would change it in a heartbeat if it were worth it.

Good luck
Thanks for the reply guys ..the thing is my satellite guy is a cave dweller that knows nothing ( he calls the receiver el makanah) and i once asked him about full hd streaming, and i swear he had the most comfused look i have ever seen ..so id rather solve the problem on my own if possible
It isn't possible to do this on your own, unfortunately. If you want to configure your own set up, you might as well just install a dish yourself and get your own receiver.

If he is like that, then there isn't much you can do. Either live with it or install a dish (or dishes) with a receiver that supports CCCAM/MGCAM/G-share and instead of 350 channels, you will 3500 channels which will be crystal clear (assuming you get 3 dishes and point them at hotbird, nilesat and cablevision). My guess, is that there are very few channels that you will miss from the ishtirak guy.
