Hello,

currently subbed to IDM, speeds are capped at 200kb/s, tried taking the 6mbit plan for a month and highest speed i got was 200kb/s, called IDM and they told me my cables are low quality and dont support above 200kb/s. My house is quite old, i have no knowledge whatsoever about networking, asking for advice. is it possible to renew all old cables? if so how? where are they located, costs, time etc...

Thanks!
well.. i ll try to answer your question.. if they mean that your internal phone lines at home are old, it is kinda easy.. you have 2 choices either "tsa7bo" inside the house internally ( costly and only can be done by an electrician unless u are an expert) or do it externally by yourself or by calling an electrician

I m not sure about the cost of doing it internally, but as u know how much electricians demand these days knowing that it is not easy...

I suggest doing it externally and it can be done by yourself .. you just need to buy the cable (I bought it recently 40m in 11 000 L.L.) you just need to locate the ogero box in your building it is usually in the electricity room (oudit el kahraba) in the building.. then estimate how are you going to reach the box and how much long the cable should be. and finally you get the cable to the ogero box and to your house and call ogero to come and link your line to the new cable.

Anyways before doing all that call ogero and ask about the issue that your cables are old and how to renew them, they will provide you with more info. or ask your ISP.
Gd luck

Thanks for clearing that up! though there's one thing i didnt quite get, why do i have to bring ogero to link my line to the new cable? i just replaced an old cable with a newer one, shouldn't it work automatically? what will they have to do? Thanks again!

I run a CAT6 external cable from my house to the phone box in the building, i got better download/uplink by 10dB/7dB now my line states are 30dB down and 24dB up. you dont need to call ogero for all of this. the only tricky part is knowing which cable is linked to your phone line (you dont want to cut someone else's line)

once you find out which lines are yours, just use any single pair (i used blue twisted pair) Make sure you opt for a CAT6 cable, and its a reputable type, such a Tenda or 3M. they have more twists per inch and a good rubber jacket which both aid for less cross-talk leading to a better signal.
