Hello and happy new year
I had my IDM ADSL subscription activated months ago in Faraya and my stats were pretty horrible with my modem syncing at 256/64K.
Had a downstream line attenuation of 58.5 dB and a really poor down SNR margin oscillating between 6 and 12 dB with frequent disconnections.
I decided to give my cables at home a check. Replaced them with a brand new cable right from the box and installed splitters everywhere.
Bingo! Down attenuation is down to 55.5 dB and most importantly SNR margin is up to 28-32 dB even in poor weather conditions and 30cm of snow outside. Connection is stable for more than 6 continuous hours and no more errors in the modem's stats page .
Only problem is my connection speed. IDM told me at first my line will support 512K (I'm subscribed to 2M/40GB) but ever since the service got turned on all I am getting is a sub-256K connection.
Is it because the DSLAM fixed my speed at 256/64K the first time the modem got connected with a poor line quality?
Is it possible to ask IDM to upgrade to 512/128K or even 1M/128K at the expense of a small drop in SNR margin? I think a 768K-1 mbps is doable on 55db attenuation/30dB SNR margin line pumping 256K in a stable fashion?
PS: some of my neighbors with Ogero can reach real 400K. I don't know about their modem settings though.
Here are my new stats:
Thanks for your help
