Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knows where the central is located in Baabda-Hazmieh (the exact location).
Relatives moved the internet dish (don't know the technical name for it) from a 3m high pole on the roof, cut the pole off and placed the dish randomly on the roof. My ping became worse of course so I was wondering if locating the central, getting a new pole and putting the dish facing the central will change things for me.
I'm using Sodetel's 16mbps blue plan - I'm getting 400 ping and I'm ready to switch to one of Ogero's plans that actually offers good ping (looking for 70-100 max).
Thank you.

can you elaborate on the Dish, what's an internet Dish and what does it have to do with DSL?

I might be wrong but if you're getting 400 ping from Sodetel, then that might just be Sodetel's fault. I used to have a problem with them (when they throttled me) where I had to turn off the router 3 to 4 times for the ping to go back to the 100s. Any electricity outage and it was back to 400.

DSL has nothing to do with dishes, you get DSL through telephone copper lines which are all laying underground. Thus the weather and storms have null to negligible impact on DSL.
The problem is with Sodetel of course and surely not dish related, they are well known for their crappy pings, check the Sodetel topic here you will find plenty of people facing the same issues.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have limited knowledge on these things, I read several topics on the forum and it cleared things up.
As for the dish, it's like a rectangular Dish on the roof, I'm not sure what the use of it is but the electrician, whose judgment I don't really trust, said this rectangular shaped Dish is what distributes internet to the whole building.
Now that I understand how the copper wires work from Ogero I don't think the rectangular Dish is related.

I did reset the router a couple of times and it went down from 400 to 197. Any other things you could recommend for faster ping from Sodetel? I heard from a friend who used to work there that they separate customers in 'Packets' or something like that and this might also cause ping fluctuations.
Thank you once more.

You might want to call and ask if you're on their list for throttling. My ping started shooting up to 400 when I reached 50GB consumption on their "unlimited" plan. Since FUP is on all plans, it's better to make sure.
In my opinion, Sodetel is absolute shit. If you find yourself capable of switching to Ogero, go for it. Get a backup connection if you need one.

I was ex Sodetel customer, I had the same problems as you, after rebooting the router many times I could grab an IP from the "low latency" subnet ... and get a good ping while it lasts. I tried to contact them many times, they eventually told me to live with it or buy the gaming plan which has stable low ping 24/7.
I didnt do it of course because it costs 90-100$ per month, I switched ISP.
