Hello, how is everyone? As all, or some of you, might know, AUB awards a full-tuition Merit Scholarship to 10 students applying for the undergraduate program each year (4 for freshman students and 6 for sophomores).

Moreover, AUB considers one's school grades and rank in grades 10 and 11, as well as, the SAT I scores (Math and Critical Reading) as criteria for this scholarship (Each criterion is considered to have a weight of 50%).

My question is the following: What do you think my chances are of earning that scholarship with a 1440/1600 SAT (800 Math / 640 CR) score and a rank 1 in both years?

Now, obviously, I'm aiming to get a higher CR score to improve my chances, and I'm going to do that regardless of the answers to this thread. But, just for the sake of leisure and curiosity, how do you think these specific scores would do?
Not trying to discourage you or anything but I had a total score of 1410/1600 (760 Math/ 650 CR) and did not get accepted into engineering in AUB back when I applied. However I had a pretty bad class rank in grades 10 and 11 and mediocre grades. I did get accepted into all majors in the faculty of Arts & Sciences though.
Now I know that you being rank 1 in both years guarantees you early admission but regarding the scholarship I'm not so sure. Last I heard it was only awarded to the students with the top grades in the whole country in the official exams or something of the sort and did not take your school grades as the only criteria but I can't guaranty the validity of this information.

Regardless I wish you good luck and hope you can get it! The tuition at AUB is nothing to laugh at and can be a real problem for a lot of students and the fact that they barely give any financial aid only makes it worse.
P.S: Out of curiosity what major did you apply to?
Whta did you apply to?
What's your actual grade? What school are you in? These actually matter to universities.
What do you mean as "rank 1?" Do you mean you were the valedictorian? If so, and with those SAT grades, you have an excellent chance in my opinion. And there is no harm in applying.
I think the major you're applying to as well as the school you're applying from will be pivotal in what happens in that regard. Your SAT score is excellent (even the 640 in CR) so you should definitely apply.
Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it.

I'm going to apply for Biology (Eventually Neuroscience) and ECE. As for my school grades, they're 91.something (18.2) and 93.6 (18.72) in grades 10 and 11 respectively. My school is National Protestant College, but it's a relatively obscure Evangelical school unlike Rabieh, Louaize, etc...

And if you're wondering, I haven't applied yet (Early admission) because the last SAT I session they consider for early admission is that of November. So, since I want to get a higher score on December, or possibly January, which is the last session they consider for regular admission, I'm going to apply regularly. Now, I've asked AUB if this decreases my chances of getting the scholarship. They said no. But, come to think about it, even if it did matter, they would probably not say it. But, I'm going to take them for their word and presume regular admission hopefully doesn't decrease my chances, ie They make up their mind about the applicants that are going to receive the Merit Scholarship from the pool of early admissions without thoroughly going through the regular pool of admissions since odds are the high achievers are going to apply early. Bit of paranoia, I know, but seems plausible.
You really should go for early admission. You have an 800 on Math and 640 on reading is a very respectable score. I got into engineering with a 1300 (750 and 550). Don't waste your time and possibly give up the chance for a scholarship, because even if they told you they wouldn't, it seems obvious that most merit scholarships will go out to early applicants due to their marks.
Apply to early admission then submit your higher SAT scores later on?

The November SAT I session is the last one they'll consider for early admissions. If not, I'd definitely go for early in a blink of an eye.

The thing is I think 1440 is not a very solid score to get the scholarship (Top 6 of all AUB applicants). Of course, my grades will also help, but still. I'm gonna give them a phone call shortly and ask them about the date merit scholarships are announced. If that date would be relatively early, then I think that would give them away, and thus, I'll apply early.
