TheStunMan A Russian security researcher known as "Dark Purple" has created a USB stick that contains an unusual payload. It doesn't install malware or exploit a zero-day vulnerability. Instead, the customized USB stick sends 220 Volts (technically minus 220 Volts) through the signal lines of the USB interface, frying the hardware. more info Edit: I'd hope it never lands on here but with this discovery any local pc is at risk.
bermudapineapple Pretty interesting. I don't know what purpose this serves, though. Blackhats who are worth anything want the data stored on the computer and aren't interested in just destroying it.

Salloum AVOlio wroteI need one of these! Me as well, possible to bake it at home? Without frying my own board preferably? :)

scorz Brownies wroteThis was showcased a few years ago. Dunno why this website JUST recently posted this. +1 I've read about it long time ago.
TheStunMan The old articles that was spread long ago might've been his first USB 1.0 he announced the new version 2.0 which works on any device having a USB port. This is not something old. Imagine working in a data center at the customer. Plug and remove job done. The USB vendors should push their technology to detect such usbs and disallow damaging the board.
