Hello, recently my S5 started rebooting on its own and after finding out its related to the efs folder, I stupidly followed a guide to fix it which ended up wiping the IMEI code and replacing it with a generic one. I took it to a shop and fixed the rebooting problem, but couldn't solve the IMEI problem. They also told me not to have high hopes in solving it. So now i'm stuck with the "Not Registered on Network" error due to the IMEI. Should I take it to Samsung Care or any one knows a shop that can fix it?

I don't think it is related to the imei code.

What does a wrong IMEI lead to?
NuclearVision
Nothing as far as i know.
Edit: if you mean that network thing, the minister canceled it a year ago.

A new imei is like getting a new phone. And i supposed it would work with your sim card.
Try your card on another phone. Or try another sim card on your phone.
Did the shop install a new software on the phone? If yes they might have installed a carrier specific software like t-mobile for example.
In this case, i suggest to reflash the software.

I tried other sim cards and they gave the same error. The firmware seemed normal and not carrier specific. I also tried factory reset, but it didn't help.It seems Samsung Care is my best option? Thanks for the reply.

I don't know their policies about tempered phones, you changed your imei.
But asking them will not harm.

Did you, by any chance, backup your etc folder before doing whatever you have done?
And did whatever you have attempted to do include deleting the EFS folder?

It's true that the minister removed the imei filtering but no carrier will register a generic imei since it will form a big security risk. If you by any chance backed up your efs folder you can restore it,other than that you will have to get a new imei you need to search for a way to change the imei on your phone and then get the imei of a cheap phone (one of those 20~30$ phones) and put it on your phone and destroy the cheap phone.

This Might Help you at least give you hint; since Frankly from my experience in Telecommunication Recovering an erased IMEI is a very troublesome process. Unfortunately this sounds as if part of the internal filesystem, specifically the /efs folder, may be corrupt. I am afraid to say that Unless you managed to make a backup of that folder before you changes, there is no way to recover from this issue. I always keep a backup of the EFS folder.

I never backed it up,and I learned my lesson the hard way.I didn't delete it however I will try to find the guide that led to this. Also,I left the phone in another shop,so I can't try anything. At least the shop confirmed that I can still sell it to them. Thank you all

Did you try flashing the correct Rom from sammobile? Had this happen with my note 2. Tried flashing multiple official Roms until it worked.
StannisTheMannis
I tried 2 different firmware,but nothing changed.
