rolf wroteI swear like 1 over 4 of every new thread here is someone who is trying to find a solution to his bad internet problem in Lebanon.
I went through a period like this myself, I believe, several years ago. I used to for example read the manpage of tc and use it on my "linux" router to prioritize ACK packets so that downloads don't slow down browsing too much, or recompiled the kernel to use a particular extension in iptables.
It's like trying to drive a Ferrari F50 on a small mountain dirt road, there is only so fast you can go. Or buying a fast car and mounting bicycle wheels on it, instead of racing tires. Or like trying to save a dying man by washing his face. You get my point.
You can't have everything, of course, especially in Lebanon, but they will try to make you believe that you can, I guess.
Anyway, it's nice to see that I am not alone, and that there are many other persons in similar situations, so maybe together something more effective can be done?
Someone mentioned for example buying a dedicated line to share it, for example. When it is a concerted effort new options are created.
I am not complaining about my ADSL 4mb speed but the lack of cheap internet access in Lebanon for people who want a temporary internet (weeks or months) and don't want to pay the already working internet in Beirut + 150$ modem (wise or mobi) + 50$ for the mountain house or beach chalet ichtirak.
Wise and mobi should decrease their prices + RENT their modems like 10$ per month or else they live in another world as many people have ADSL and wont pay so much for an ''accessory'' internet.
The cable solution is good (old internet cable ichtirak), but of course the guy will take 100$ to install it + 30 to 50$ per month.
If only I can stop paying the Beirut ADSL...but no! If I do they will cut my access till I represent all the official papers to the ISP and wait the Ogero ''feasibility test'' meaning 2 months without ADSL when I will be back in Beirut.
See how crazy marketing is lacking in our country?
