  • Confused Between AUB and LAU

Hello everyone
I'm a grade 12 student who got accepted into civil engineering in LAU and into physics in AUB, I would like to know if it's worth going to AUB then transferring to civil engineering (or ECE) since I heard that AUB has a stronger engineering program and better job opportunities to offer. I know that both universities are good and accredited but I'm really confused!
I would like to know also which university is more generous in terms of financial aid (I heard that AUB has strengthened its financial aid program over the past 2 years)
And in case I went to AUB, will transfer be easy to achieve or am I going to lose a year or two before transferring?
Thank you
You will lose a minimum of a semester at AUB, maybe two. This is because you need to earn certain grades to pass the requirements of a transfer. AUB is the name that stands out from Lebanon, so if you are looking to work outside Lebanon, it has that small edge. Other than that, they are both strong institutions and your passion and interest in the subject will be the main reason you benefit, not the small differences between the departments.
I'm a current LAU student and my biggest regret so far is declining my admission to AUB. But there's an upside to it, the grading system is more lax at LAU and most of the instructors are friendly and pleasant. AUB is arguably the best university in the Arab world, but it's virtually unknown in the west. If you're looking to standout in the Arab job market then go to AUB (your GPA will take a hit though), but i f you're looking to finish your undergrad and apply for a master's abroad then go with LAU.

In the end you should take every advice with a grain of salt and weigh the pros and cons of both options yourself. Personally, the most important factor for my decision was the tuition and financial aid. Do what suits you best and good luck!
LAU can get you the best financial aid. (I heard people getting up to 80%)
My friend is currently going as a mechanical engineer (second year) at AUB, she does have financial aid and I also think she has an extra percentage removed because of how much grades she's getting.

Can't you ask if you will get financial aid before you join the university?
Go for LAU. AUB is getting worse by the minute, and they're taking in way more students than they can handle. The administration there is terrible and much more. (and its much more expensive than LAU)
Of course, the deadline for submitting the financial aid applications for prospective students is May 31. LAU's financial aid screening process is way more lax than AUB, the students abuse the system and some rich kids end up getting financial aid as well because they purposely left out their daddy's yacht in the asset's section. You also receive an honor scholarship based on your GPA (after completing 1 year at LAU). Check out this link for the scholarships and this link for the financial aid.

This is also a good point. AUB has been in a steady decline in terms of quality since 2005/2006. All the best teachers are being replaced with bad teachers and tuition is going up. I still think their departments, as of now, are better than LAU's.
If you're going to spend a good part of your next years at a univeristy, how about visiting each place and see how you feel about it.

ouch, tough choice, AUB+Physics = good degree for future prospect of doctorate and professorship, also in case you can be of some importance when it comes to the field of all that is physical and not, it is best you do it in AUB.

If you are interested in making money, then go for LAU and the civil program.

No special reason for you to think otherwise since you are being offered two choices that are not correlated in any way.
Choosing between Civil eng. and Physics is like choosing what you want for lunch. Apples or steak? Totally uncorrelated.

Physics is nice for those not weak at heart when it comes to math and physics.
I am a fan of this field and its constituents.
No demand for people in this field here in lebanon.

Civil is nice for those like building stuff with basis of engineering and perfection, not beauty.
Highly recommended for finding a job here in lebanon.
I know someone will bight my head off for referring to structures built by civil engineers as stuff.

The only method I could ask you that would allow you to choose responsibly is:
Who Are You?
How do you describe yourself?
What do you think you can Accomplish?
When do you plan to do something private in your field?
Where to do you plan to stay to accomplish your career demands?

Think about these things, no need to reply, they are only for you to wield your first insights into adulthood.
Knowing that now you have no knowledge of anything that allows you to serve the community with valuable knowledge yet, your choices tell you what and how and where and what and how you tackle problems as they arise.
Favor your W's, they are your friend. mmm I think i will wright a book about that.
