rtp wroteI would have suggested to contact IDM and threaten to change ISP in case they apply this 19th century rule. However, changing connection is a big hassle, I simply don't feel like doing it. Good going monopoly.
Well, Ogero and other ISPs do not provide unlimited at night at all - not defending them or anything. But if this means they are going to slow down the internet at that time this is absolutely ridiculous.
rtp
@Johnaudi, you are missing the point. The point is to show IDM that its not ok to give us shittier service. Plus Ogero has better ping then IDM. So technically I do have a reason to change. However, this monopoly shit makes it impossible to change internet.

Does the minister Harb have a facebook or something to post complains?
If yes then we must posts tons of complains, mentioning that IDM and Cyberia are not respecting his list price grid

So there's a monopoly going around this country in any category from the telecom department, up to the smallest department. And guess what we always blame it up to the government as if the government is under one hand and not categorized. For the IDM and other alike companies Boutros cant do anything about it because simply they are companies and no one can tell them what to do (and lets not go further to explain that they are backed by some maniac/powerful people too). Anyway, lets take it from one point they are saying there are some abusive downloads overnight and people are complaining so our solution is to charge people more as it might make them use the internet less (overnight). This is a scam you cant charge people in one day saying " look we are f$cked up the people are upset with our service and to make it better (sure..!!) we will charge you more and hopefully everyone will become happy".
No, No, No, you don't charge people for a better service, you simply do something about it before anything else. This is what makes people cancel your service and go for a better service.
This country is based on monopolies and if all people are ok with it (i think so because this situation was started since the 90's so yea 25 years same monopoly same government same everything), i say change your service to ogero and be done with it, or :) find another solution.
rtp
I never cast a vote, so technically am not to blame you can blame all the people who voted. There isn't any abuse, it just a stupid mask. It's clear that it isn't costing them anything, they just want to make more money. By the way they are not giving you a new better service, they just thought that they would make an additional $3/month/user while giving you the same service.

Download limit on torrents is now...10kb/s!!!!
NAM
vegetaleb wroteDownload limit on torrents is now...10kb/s!!!!
Let's burn cyberia offices!
lol i'm with idm and they don't have limit on torrents (420 Kbpson average on 4mb plan 19$) .. better than burning things .. why don't you switch to a better ISP then and maybe then they will learn
AVOlio
Really.
I think all of people that are with private ISPs, just switch to ogero.
Stick with your 3G for that one month.
I changed private ISPs three times, I don't care if I will be without Internet for one month or more.. I just have to fine a better one!!
And thank God I did, I am with ogero now.
Just everyone, at least here in lebgeeks at least... Just switch to ogero right now, or the next day go and do it all.
I mean, what is stopping you, really?
Put these companies out of business!!
Especially sodetel!! If you are dumb enough to even call them a company.
Really.. What is stopping you right now, to go and stop your Internet subscription from your private ISP (whichever it is) and going applying to ogero?

The problem lies not with Privet ISPs, The minster, or Ogero.
One guy to blame. Abed el Menem Youssef. He is the person standing btween us and an actual internet service.
Forget about the infrastructure, FTTX, and the fiber backbone. This guy is holding bandwidth as hostage. He is not issuing E1 lines to ISPs share with their customers. Now ISPs are suffering, and I can understand that they are forced to buy bandwidth from Satalite providers, and it is expensive. The current prices set by the Gov last year but ISPs at pickle here they have to provide 2X the bandwidth at 50% the prices.
Long story short, Faster internet in lebanon Start with getting rid of Abed el mnouem Youssef.
Articles supporting my claim.

Couple of years ago there was a campaign on social networks for him to free the bandwith he is holding.
Few days ago Mike Butcher from Techcunch had an interview with Youssef, he calims that he is not Selling bandwidth to ISPs because they already have sufficient bandwidth.

the issue isn't with Ogero not giving them bandwidth, there is more to this than what they claim not that ogero is good though, long story short Private ISPs are GARBAGE. they shouldn't even be called ISP's they are just internet re-sellers just like the "cable guys".

Oh ! Talking about Ogero.... since you all guys are saying Switch to Ogero, well i left Sodetel (the greatest Sodetel on earth) and planned to go to Ogero, i got all the documents and went to the "Centrale" the great friendly lady there, while chewing her gum, said "3ayne badna nekchouf 3al khatt" this needs 10 days, and assumed that my home can handle 1Mbps only. they didn't reply till now, i am working on 3g, i have used around 20 Gb till now, and still in progress.

2 things they never fixed since the very start of ADSL in Lebanon:
-Easy switch between ISPs, the switching procedure is long and costing (again they make you pay while they shouldn't)
-As the vast majority of Lebanese have a summer house, they should propose a 2-3 months transfer of ADSL from a big city number to a village number.
When we see all these ISP in Lebanon someone would say the competition must be hard and many solutions given to the customers to make their life easier as well as battle of lower prices between them like in any country in the world...but no!
There are not a single ISP proposing an additional service, not a single 1$ less to promote competition but instead they make you pay more with time for unlimited downloads at night and ISP switching, because like many other business fields in Lebanon, the directors of these ISPs are like mafia leaders who agree on how much they will make you pay more
bermudapineapple
Funny thing about this is that there are a lot of people in Lebanon that actually need real water.
The Lebanese are a very peculiar people. We are fine with being trampled over politically and ideologically but as soon as our middle-class privileges are touched, we decide to take a stand.
There are problems in Lebanon much more serious than a 3 dollar price increase on internet speed but no one cares.

how many of you received the automatic upgrade from 1mbps to 2 mbps last summer? i haven't received it yet and now they want to also strip me the free night traffic. it is so frustrating

I don't remember it's 100% automatic, you have perhaps to go to their offices and complete new paperworks for a new speed

No idm are saying that ogero didnt upgrade 90% of centrals yet!!

which is true to some extent. Fiber backbone implemented but still not operational for more than a year now. the fiber backbone should increase bandwidth coming from ISPs -->COs-->Users.
Second issue is that ISPs ran out of bandwidth a year ago, Ogero in charge of selling bandwidth to ISPs is not doing so. That's why users of Privet ISPs are suffering from slow internet connection, and Ogero subscribers are just fine.
Truepeace
Add WISE to the non unlimited night traffic ...
"In an effort to enhance the quality of service during night time for our DSL customers, the free night traffic feature will remain only available on our 1M and 2M unlimited plans, effective 1st of May 2015."
Sup3r
Well that's good news from WISE, because IDM is going all shitty. Might be time to switch to Ogero.
