Hey guys,
I am interested in playing GTA 5, on my current PC, but when i asked this question in the GTA V thread, it appears i can't,
so here is my current configuration
CPU intel i7 920 (1st gen)
Intel "DX58SO" MOBO
12 GB DDR3 memory
Nvidia 9800 GT Graphic card
SSD and HDD ... etc
since i am not able to change my PC a.t.m, would i benefit from swapping my current graphic card? (would i gain a benefit that allows me to play games decently?)
Question: can you recommend a certain graphic card that gives me a performance boost, works with my current MOBO and relatively not expensive?, or do you prefer changing the whole PC later.
Thanks for your replies :)

your pc seems good, but how many watts is your power supply?
edit: also what is your budget?

Your PC can run GTA V. It needs a 9800GT anyway. But if I were you, I'd just pick up a 970. Everything else would be fine. The next upgrade would be a platform upgrade.

The 750ti is on sale for $186 at pcandparts, should be around $200 with tax and shipping

The 750Ti is a good choice IF your psu can't handle a graphics card. If you're interested I'm selling my 660ti for a good price and it's much faster than the 750ti.

If you have a decent psu, GTX 970 is your best choice.
P.S get a good cooler for that cpu and oc to 3.2/3.6Hz (fairly easy especially if you have a D0 core 920)

I used to have a 9800 gt, I replaced it last year with a cheap radeon hd 7770 (it was like 80$) and it consumed less power and was around 50% stronger. Just saying if you're interested in just "playing" the game irrespective of how well the graphics are, you may not need to spend 150$+ for a GPU. As long as you are careful what you buy, not all GPUs are made for gaming, most cheap GPUs that are labeled 1GB ddr3 choke if you open MSPaint.

As mentioned the 9800GT is the card listed in the game's minimum requirement, it should run OK on low settings (perhaps).
A new GPU will give you a way better experience in my opinion as all your other components look good.

Guys here is my PSU
and concerning the 970 its really out of the budget,
can my PSU support anything better than the 750i, maybe the 660ti?
Thank you.

It's an FSP rebrand by InWin.
I wouldn't go anything bigger than a GTX750Ti.
Definitely change your PSU in the future.

It looks like a Chinese generic PSU, I doubt it can deliver a 450W output, you may install a GTX 750ti but if I were you I wont even risk it, it might work at the beginning but it will give you a headache later and might fry some components inside your case.
If you want a Nvidia GPU check the "Help me choose" on the Nvidia's website:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/HelpMeChoose/fx2/HelpMeChoose.asp?lang=en-us
Keep in mind, when you choose your PSU wattage they consider you have a good branded PSU that can deliver the advertised power output properly and not some Chinese generic PSU.

970 is an extreme overkill anyway. I think the 750ti requires a 400W so yours should do fine, but it's usually advised to get a brand name PSU. It's currently the best bang for buck GPU in that price range in my opinion.

Powerman PSUs come with InWin cases. They are made by FSP.

^^ I saw your previous comment after posting mine ;)

what is your PSU , swap the 9800 GT with a 970 will definitely be a " win" situation. Enjoy the nice graphics of GTA 5 on 1440p or even 1080p really different experience compared to a bare minimum graphics fidelity of the 9800 GT

Allright guys, i've got a small budget for the swap (around 300$)
Need a new graphic card that can be installed on my DX58SO (moderate price, doesn't matter if its used)
Probably need a PSU to handle it.
Can you please suggest which ones to get?
Appreciate it.

FPP HEXA 500W (Check Compuworld for the Thermaltake Smart Se 530W. It's the same price, but much better)
750Ti
