Tech Guru wrote500 USD for a "Tight Gaming Desktop" , get a PS4 much much better deal , Gaming PC for me starts at USD 1500 and above. 500 USD you will play rubbish you will not enjoy at all.
Did you even read the post? Or are you just posting for the sake of it?
Tech Guru, at a first glance you might be right i mean the PS4's graphics will blow away any sub 1000$ budget PC.. BUT you are forgetting that at 80$ to 90$ a game the PS4 can become really expensive compared to the 5 000 L.L game DVD :)
Not to mention that you cant download porn on the PS4 hahahahaha

the porn issue just sealed the deal

No it won't. The system I recommended can play any game the PS4 can at better details and frame-rate.

Also, I'm against piracy. You can grab lots of games on sale for less than 5$. AAA games costs from 7 to 9$ as well. Games at launch only cost as much as 60-70$
@AvoK95 - Let matters prevail and set aside PS4 and Desktop "FanBoyism" Aside:

I own both ; 2800 USD + Gaming Desktop and a PS4 linked to a 50 Inch Series 2014 LG Smart TV which is 4K with an internal up-scaling hardware / algorithms from 1080p to 4k which is brilliant , immersive , and comfortable ... Frankly even the PS4 on 1080p matches a 1000 - 1200 budget PC on 1080p on medium / high setting - Farcry 4 and Assassin Creed 4 for example. Reason: It is not not solely on the hardware we throw rather on Developers are now focusing on "more optimization" for consoles rather on PCs - Since consoles are generating more money for game developers - Simple ... You can output 30fps/1080p on the PS4 with a well optimized game which give you an overall smooth experience from start to finish compared to 21 Fps on a GTX 970 - 980 with a I7 4790 K Dips on Assassin Creed 4 on the PC with bad optimization and this will encounter in incoming games.

Consoles set developers in a mind set of 7-8 machine Life Cycles so they are forced to highly optimize games to give you a similar/ sub similar experience compared to Desktop Owners ; However the downside for Gaming Desktop Owners ... AMD ,Intel and Nvidia set end users for money pulling approach with an obsolete technology which force users to upgrade in 1-2 year cycle (Especially in the Graphic Cards Area) to match more evolving games that needs more Teraflops horse powers and newer Direct X support with its all its bells and whistles ... Simple Look at the GTX 770 which is only one year old and considered a " high end graphic card" can it cope with Farcry 4 now with a smooth experience on ULTRA on - NO - http://www.geforce.com/sites/default/files-world/attachments/geforce-dot-com-far-cry-4-graphics-performance-and-tweaking-guide-optimal-playable-settings-table-gtx-900-and-700-series-3.png 1080p compared to a smoother experience on the PS4 with the introduction of a new anti-aliasing method : Hybrid Reconstruction Anti-Aliasing - Check how the 750Ti which is with in your budget van cope with the game - Low Setting Recommended :) - Ubisoft utilized HRAA for consoles , more development is invested.

On the contrary , Nvidia is also cooperating with Developers and implementing there own graphical enhancements such as TXAA , HBAO+ , PCSS, (Soft Shadows) .. You want this enabled you pay more to the horse power of Graphic Card and more to come in 2015 :)

- Simply: Money , Business , and Capitalization

@Tutenkhamun

For Games here for the PS4 are easy ... You can trade with friends , trade with new ones in Shops Like Nino , etc... and You enjoy the PSN network and regular games updates. I have been always a Desktop Gaming Fan but from experience I found the PS4 a good technological advancement over its predecessors and a real competitor for Medium/High Desktop Gaming.

For the Porn issue you do not need both , simply you can enjoy on a USD 800 smart TV I liked the LG WebOs and you type and pair it with you smart phone for better website browsing and enjoy them a 42 inch screen "smartly" upscale compared to 24-25 inch Desktop Monitor :)
You can have a 500$ PC that will outperform a console. Even after 7 years. The consoles run the games at lower settings and so can you.

You can't optimize FC5 to run on a Pentium 3 PC. Specs are specs. There's always going to be limitations. And it seems that you still didn't read my post. The PC I recommended has an i5 8gigs of RAM an possibly a use 670. Now, you're telling me that a PS4 is a better choice than that system?

PCs will always win. Unless you're buying a console for 250$ or something.

This video proves my point quite well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUhdL-ITG-M
The PS4's APU has nearly the same performance as an HD 7850 which is equivalent to an R9 270, a GTX 670/GTX 760 (which is equivalent to an HD 7950/R9 280) will run circles around an HD 7850/R9 270.
I don't think the PS4 and XB One will last as long as the PS3 and the 360. They (The developers) already maxed it out. I bet a revision will be released this year or in a few months.
I have to agree with Tech Guru,
consoles get somehow better with time, when developers get to know the hardware better. You cant judge current games for being completely representative of what these consoles are really capable of.

In terms of hardware, ps4 has similar performance to nvidia GT 760. but it offers way lower API and driver overhead compared to a pc, giving devs better efficiency when to utilize the hardware than than PC does.

a simple example is the upcoming uncharted 4 gameplay found here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ow2cL-pp6p8

and metal gear 5 phantom pain gameplay found here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkacZnShxY4

both games will come after 1.5 years of release of the ps4. with amazing graphics and 1080p 60fps on the PS4.

As i stated in my earlier post on this thread, if you are looking for budget sub $500 PS4 is your best bet, and a better long term investment as it insures long term compatibility with upcoming titles, same thing can not be said about budget pc. the " glorious pc master race" is not really applicable unless you are willing to spend $1000 on a system.

PS: I dont own a PC, not a PS4

The PS3 and the Xbox 360 were released with specs equal to a high-end gaming PC, unlike the PS4 and Xbone which are equivalent to a lower mid-end gaming PC.

The PS4 and Xbone may have midrange PC specs. However the architecture is different. It's the same as a regular PC architecture. It might not last as long as the older gen consoles did because of this.I could be wrong as well, who knows. No one can predict the future.

@haidcar
If you get a $500 PC, it will have better or the same graphics as a console. Even after 7 years. If a game is released on the PS4, that's 1080P 60FPS, the same game can be playable on the same PC at lower settings (Which will make the game look like the console version) 1080P 60FPS.

Furthurmore, I'll repeat myself again. The $500 PC I recommended is a full fledged gaming rig. It has an i5, 8GB of RAM, 1TB HDD, and a used 670. It can run any game 1080P max 45-60 FPS for the next few years

"Furthermore, I'll repeat myself again. The $500 PC I recommended is a full fledged gaming rig. It has an i5, 8GB of RAM, 1TB HDD, and a used 670. It can run any game 1080P max 45-60 FPS for the next few years" :) .. I like your bold declaration , confession , and self confidence in this statement that is not related to practical reality especially the term " It can run any game max 45-60 fps for the next few years.

~1- 2 Years Games Old Benchmarks for the 670 : http://anandtech.com/bench/product/1349?vs=1355
~I went from 45 FPS on Far Cry 4 Medium on 670 to 60 FPS on Ultra on the 970 - Same Ram 16 GB Ram , Same CPU i7 4970
~When you build such system let actual testing goes I can come and check the following newly released games:

- FarCry 4
-Assassin Creed 4
- Crysis 3
- Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor
-Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition
-Wolfenstein The New Order

and based on your generalization on maxed up on 1080P and see some actual results of FPS which will actually contradicts your overly exaggerated self confident confession :)
First of all, a PS4 will have worse graphics than most PC games at medium settings. Second of all the PS4 doesn't even run all games at 1080P (and this is the first year they're released. I'm predicting a not so bright future for that) Furthermore, Far Cry 4 and any other game released by Ubisoft this last few months are known to broken. Far Cry 4 has frame dips while looking at a wall. So benches for that game are useless.

Furthurmore, I can't see a single game in the link you have provided that is 1080P and below 60 FPS (Note that some of them have MSAA on, which you don't need at high resolutions like 1080P, which give you a nice 30% or more increase in performance)
A single 670 is running Grid 2 at 1440P maxed at 52FPS on min frame rate. Which means it's good enough for any game. I proved my point 3 times now, and I'm going to repeat myself AGAIN.

The $500 posted above is just like any $1500 rig. The only difference is that it has a cheap case, board, slightly slower processor and no SSD. My 3770K Maximus V Formula 8GB Vengence and 7970 are only slightly slower.

So summary:

The $500 rig can run:
Crysis 3 at 60FPS (min FPS) and 84.7FPS at max (With AA, which you don't need)
BF4 at 49.2FPS (min FPS) and 78.3FPS at max (at Ultra. I've played it both on PS4 and XBOne and they look like the low settings of PC with everything turned off)
Grid 2 at 74FPS (min FPS) and 127.6FPS at max (with 4x MSAA, which you don't need)

Note that these are all at maximum settings and on 1080P. Some games can also run 60+FPS on 1440p. Yes on a $500 computer, 1440P.

While these results exist. somehow the 1yo PS4, which can't even run all games at 1080P 60FPS is a better option and has worse graphics than the PC's games at low. According to some people. That makes total sense. OK.
I'd have to agree with AvoK, knowing that the PS4 may have a great GPU/specs for the price, but the games are limited, you cannot play with a keyboard or mouse (whereas on PC you may be able to play with a controller), you can hit a higher resolution and FPS for the same price, and hell, you can use your PC for a whole lot of matters.

I own a PS4 myself, I am not disappointed with it, but PC is way better for gaming IMO (I had a Laptop with HD 6700, 8GB RAM, 1 TB - which is worse than the PC recommended by AvoK) and yet I can run some games with customized settings (of course) at a better pace than the PS4.

Let's not forget each PS4 game will cost you about 80$, and the "good" F2P titles will cost you PS+, and let's not forget that you cannot play with your friends without them owning a PS4 or buying a new controller (knowing that most homes have PCs nowadays, you'd be able to LAN party with a group via a PC). In a couple years, games will be more demanding, you cannot replace the GPU on your console whereas you may be able to change your graphical processing unit on your motherboard for a cheaper price than buying a new console.
riqmarmes wroteThe Cooler Master case for 60$ includes 500W psu is a really good case for this. 3.0 GHz - G3220 processor (60$), 2x4gb 1600mhz (82$), MSI H81M-P32L 68$, and 1TB hdd (60$). Thats 363$ with VAT.
And get a used Graphics card for up to 140$ or a new one if pcandparts make a good offer anytime soon. (a gtx 650ti and better will run your games at least medium settings)
^This^ + GTX 750 Ti for 250$ max and the is slightly over the limit if you can manage the overload
