Hey guys, so my friend wants to buy a laptop. He doesn't want anything from apple, and his price range is 500-600$. He'll use it mostly for studying and regular use, i doubt he'll play any games on it.
He also wants it to have a nice design and a nice screen.
Any suggestions ? Thanks.
He won't be able to get anything from Apple (Mac) for 500-600$ anyways, Apple products are highly expensive.

Any laptop would work for that matter, a Chromebook or some Acer/Lenovo.
If you look hard enough, you might find an i3/i5 with a touchscreen.

Few things to make sure:
- Don't focus on RAM and HDD size, because based on his usage, it will not make a difference.
- Don't get a dedicated GPU because he needs power efficiency and plus he won't be gaming on it anyway so it'll just be a waste of money.
- Get a U series CPU because it's cheaper, uses less power meaning better battery life.
- Get something with Windows!
- Get something that is touch. PCs are leaning towards touch screen, and it's very convent to have it. Furthermore, Windows 8 without touch sucks.
- Get a big ass battery
- Don't care about brands as it wouldn't last more than 5 years anyway (give or take)
Just a suggestion how about a 10 inch tablet (samsung note 10.1 comes to mind) would be much more portable and much better for reading ... if not check this laptop Lenovo G50-70A 59-419803 price comes at about $580 no OS though, but has i5 4gb RAM and 500 gb HDD. or the Acer TMP255M-M-54204G Slim Line (search for it on the link provided above).
my advice: stay away from expensive looking cheap stuff like touch PCs ...
as mentioned by the guys, a lenovo is a good choice laptop, it fits to anybodys budget 500-1400 $ not to mention that they are durable.
JUST got the lenovo g510, i5 4th gen 2 gb amd gpu, 4gb ddr3 ram, 500gb hdd, windows 8.1 original...600$

good deal if u ask me
