Importing games into Steam

hello, so i have the left 4 dead 2 files on my pc and i want to place them in steam, so as not to sit through 7.5gb of downloads... but for some reason when i place them in the common folder in steam apps, steam keeps on downloading the files as if nothing has happened

any thoughts ?

thanks ali, it works now.....i should have removed left 4 dead 2.exe
