anthonyf96 hi i have tested my ports with www.grc.com and all but 6 are closed... What can be the cause and how to fix it. I m with IDM.
trent Do you have a real IP with IDM? If not, and you're behind a NAT, then the open ports are on IDM's side. GRC's Shields-UP will scan all the ports on the IP address it detects when you access their service, which will be IDM's if your behind a NAT.
trent Then you have to go through your modem's or router's settings, whichever is establishing the PPPOE connection and find the source of the issue. Search under settings related to firewall, port forwarding, security or anything similar. I have found that me modem, a DLink, even after I secure all settings, will still occasionally (not always!) respond on a couple of ports when scanned (closed), rather than just remain silent (stealth). On the other hand, my router, running a variant of Tomato firmware, if I bridge my connection and let it establish the PPPOE connection is fully stealth on all ports. Long story short, if you've done everything you can, it might be the fault of the router's/modem's firmware.
anthonyf96 actually how can i be sure that i have the real ip? they told me once that they did it but i want to be sure
trent go to http://myip.is/ to see what the outside world sees as your IP locally check your modem to find what it's reporting as the WAN IP it is assigned. If the 2 IPs are identical, then you have a real IP.
