Adnan Hello, I was wondering about the quality of online gaming for people here, since our Internet is de facto closer to Europe than our actual region. Maybe I should have posted this under Networking, but I believe it's a gamer interest. So for example when you're playing Call Of Duty, you get connected with players from nearby countries, to which we have worse latency than France for instance. I won't get much into the details, you most probably know what I'm talking about. Has anyone tried to cope with this ? If so, how ? I tried using a free VPN but apparently it doesn't work, the game never connects (a ports thing I guess). Thanks in advance.
Adnan Thank you for replying. I'll rephrase it in a set of questions. 1) When I ping different servers across the world, I notice that we always have the best latency to France and mostly Europe, even better than countries that surround us geographically. This is because we're connected to France through a submarine cable, true ? 2) If 1 is True: When someone plays a multiplayer game such as COD on his PS3, he automatically gets assigned to play with people who are geographically close to him (so mostly from Arab countries for us). My question is: if all above statements are correct, is there a way to connect to players based on better latency instead of geography ? I don't have a PS3 now anyway, but I'm just wondering.
AvoK95 Well it depends on the game. And it's not about geography, it's about where the people are connecting from to the server. When you can pick the server, you don't get to choose who's in it, because they would have the option to choose where to connect.
Adnan Sure, I wasn't talking about the games in which you can choose where to connect, but about the ones where you get automatically assigned. Can you explain this part? it's about where the people are connecting from to the server
